If Neymar was as inept as Messi tonight in a game like this he deserves every bit of comment on it.

Messi can do a lot more than he did tonight and this idea that as midfield find it hard to get ball to him adds to the idea of him moving into better areas to receive ball.

Where he played tonight was no mans land and left with too much to do when had the ball.

The only better areas where he could regularly receive the ball was basically in the zones of a DM as with the game against Iceland. Receiving the ball on the run trying to find space in pockets is just not realistic with this team. They can't execute those passes.

I agree. Messi was basically hiding today. Nobody could get the ball to him, but I think that's also Croatia playing well. It's just too easy to shut him out from games these days..

He can move more where he was and make it easier for those players who are struggling to link play up. By his lack of movement it makes the situation worse and he is part of it.

Drop deep and help those struggling to build up ball is another option but completely useless if just drops deep to do what others are already doing.

Messi received the ball in terrible positions tonight.

Argentina should play 4-4-2 diamond, like we did in the 1st Clasico. Messi and Aguero up front, Dybala CAM and Lo Celso CDM.

No more grandpa Mache at CDM and those 3 at the back experiments.

That is why Zidane left. Because of their debacle in La Liga. He realized that he can’t bring anything else to this Madrid side, yet their experience and mentality ensured them yet another CL win.
