I don't know the footballing intellect of your friend circle, but if you are to look at this from most peoples perception, its not a bit like that. After messi winning nothing at all with the national team which is still easily top 2 on paper, people credit even more to xavi guardiola etc for the past glory and having the best trident MSN for present glory even more.

The truth is different that we all know but no, no way that people think it was messi all the way for all of and the sole reason for barcelona's success.

more political than lucky. Ronaldo's grandchildren will be ashamed that their grandfather won these awards because of political reasons in an era in which messi was incomparable.

In every statitical way, Messi has been way above Ronaldo.
Ronaldo should give the prizes to Eder and Ramos becouse they wont the trophies for him.
Heck he was the worst player in RM in CL final and scored most of the goals against Malmo and Shaktar, was bad in Euros and didnt even play the final.
Messi has won based on tournaments aswell but then he was actually also statisticly good.

At things are going Ronaldo will win his fifth BO and equal Messi. The biggest joke in football history. Sadly we are part of this injustice.thanks to the board.

Messi ended up 2nd place for the Best FIFA Men's Player 2016 award tonight.

Roberto Carlos' comment on Messi and other Barca players when they didn't appear at FIFA Gala.

"I am sad and disappointed that Leo and his teammates have not come. They have many great footballers and all of us would have liked to see them attend. We all wanted to see Messi, the other big players and the coach of Barcelona here. It's a FIFA prize. FIFA is the highest authority in football. So, everyone should be here."

The Brazilian also said Cristiano has previously appeared at award ceremonies regardless of the expected outcome.
