when dembele comes back surely messi is going to play more centrally with dembele and suarez playing wide strikers infront of him waiting for throughballs or to play one twos

Really? Did his play any games for BVB as an attacking mid?

The 4-4-2 should be scrapped in any case, but Valverde has fallen in love with it so I doubt that's gonna happen any time soon.

Plenty times in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 and even 3-1-4-2 system.

He really is a fantastic player. Very versatile.

Messi is the better AM for me, Dembele shud be utilised more for his pace.

Messi is a freak man... He is like 10 world class footballers packed into a tiny package. And I think Messi should be played as a False 9 to ease his workload. He is 30 already.

His workload is already eased, he covers like 6km distance per game no matter where he plays.

Yes because Suarez's success in the past in relevant to his current form. In 2017 Paco > Suarez.

but the current form of suarez can change and improve...
in the last period he restarted to score...
do you really want play the season with paco?
what did paco do better than suarez in 2017?
good backup and stop!

The truth.

The truth is that some of the guys here don't understand this game above the pub-level, so for them a player who scores remains the sole hero.
It's the rather primitive present notion of viewing the players not even as "athletes" but rather gladiators, who shouldn't only shred blood on the field, but the most rejoiced hero becomes the one who scores.

If you see the game from the perspective of a coach - for instance - the truth is very different indeed.
For the coach or the connoisseur the favorable player is always the one who is able and capable of taking part of the combinative play that later might result in a goal. From this angle it truly doesn't matter who is the one finally scoring, it is the very path that leads to the favorable scoring situation!

So those who saw the last game now celebrate Paco, who didn't do anything useful during the entire game, but did a relatively nice header from a fixed situation.
Suarez on the other hand did not play badly in this match, despite his questionable form, he was also unlucky in two consequent situation when he could have easily scored. The rest depended on his bad luck, but the essence of the problem is, that Suarez is able to take part in creative and combinative play, whereas Paco is absolutely lacking any talent to do so.

That's why the coach still favors Suarez, because he is seemingly wise and experienced enough to know, that scoring one or two goals doesn't necessarily mean the player has a well-earnt place in the starting XI.

I know that this age is crazy with illiterates spitting out single-sentenced judgements every minute, a mentality where Beckenbauer could have never won a BD, only the "Ronaldos", who by the way score half of their goals from penalties...

The Suarez in bad shape and form is still 200% better than any Paco, Vidal or Deloufeu, because he has the brain for combinations, even if often unsuccessfully accomplished, because the others, including Paco who scored a single important one now, is just unable to even think of creative and combinative play...

There is so much wrong in this post. Where do I start?

For me it's never been about scoring, with Suarez nor any other striker for that matter. As long as the player is getting himself into good scoring positions, isn't hindering build up play and is a able to contribute to the team going forward in ways other than scoring, I'm perfectly happy with said forward; the goals will come as long as the striker is a decent finisher. The problem is that the Luis Suarez of 2017 possess none of the aforementioned qualities, whereas Paco, who himself is a rather static, primitive striker is leaps and bounds above Suarez when it comes to overall contribution.

You say Paco did not do anything useful other than score a goal off a set-piece, but these days a neutral contribution is far better than Suarez's immense negative contribution. While Paco more often than not stands still, stays out of the way during counter attacks and doesn't offer as much off-ball movement, his efforts are far more constructive in aiding us to victory than Suarez who is more that content to go offside repeatedly, kill counter attacks with his snail like pace, fumble the ball with his brick like first touch, make a meal out of the simplest of passes and miss the simplest of chances.

Suarez this season has played every single match for us, very rarely, if at all being rested or substituted even though his form warrants a long benching. Guess what? He's produced an abysmal 6 goals; Paco on the other hand who has played a small fraction of the minutes Suarez has sits at only one goal less with 5 himself. What do these stats prove? They prove that Paco sticks to his domain, doesn't try to play with the ball at his feet when he knows that's not his forte and makes his presence felt in the box to finish most of the chances he's provided with. Suarez on the other hand has been a clunky mess interjecting himself into the game only to kill our momentum and miss boatloads of chances. This isn't 2015 anymore, which striker would you rather have today, in 2017?

This has not been a theme that has become prevalent recently, Suarez's from has been gradually getting worse from the 2nd half of last season until today where he can't even control a pass properly. He's been given a multitude of chances to redeem himself and has failed miserably on most occasions and the time has come for Valverde to say enough is enough and give another player that's far more productive than him his starting role on the team. Also the fact that you mention Suarez's involvement in "creative and combinative play" is laughable to say the least. Like I've said before he kills every attack that reaches him and has the creativity of a damp dish cloth. Paco staying out of the build up is much preferred to whatever Suarez offers us currently.

Good try pushing that fallacy ridden pseudo-intellectual crap. Next time try not to be so pretentious, Valverde isn't some genius for continuing to play Suarez, he's a coward who picks his starting lineups based primarily on reputation and status.

Suarez is playing horribly and it's not just been a couple of games or weeks, it's been months. The only reason why he keeps playing is because of his past. He needs to improve soon or we can forget about the Champions League. You can't win it without a top quality striker getting those important goals in the knockout phases, like he used to.

Potroh What a load of bollocks. You are writing it as if it was from a movie scene. Wake up. This is a no bs competitive sports. Paco has been more effective than Suarez this season, simple as that. If it was 2015 or 2016, I would say Paco is not as good but in 2017 Paco has outdone himself and Suarez. He deserves to be making an impact on the pitch and show what he's yet to unleash from all those while he's on the bench. Suarez is NOT better in combinative play or what not, most of the attacks, especially counter attacks, stagnated whenever the ball reaches Suarez. He is painfully slow, struggles to even get past a player, absolutely appaling for a player known for his flair and agility, his shots are hardly curling and always straight at the keeper, lacks composure and accuracy in one on one situations, maybe it's time for him to step aside.
