i expect portugal to go through, as i expected it against croatia, because poland are chokers as well and portugal mostly play better against opponents who are considered even the slightest of favorites against them, while teams like croatia, poland, etc. mostly choke against worse teams. add the injustice of football and their ronaldo's immense luck i expect portugal to convincingly knock poland out with ronaldo scoring at least once.

This really can't be understated either. Even with Hodgson's lack of organization for the throw-ins and poor substitutions, none of that can explain why Rooney suddenly can't trap a ball or why Kane has forgotten how to shoot. They're so mentally weak it's embarrassing. I take the point that they're overrated, and that's true, but even so there's still far more talent in that England squad than the Iceland squad and we really should still be beating them.

as much as i love the england bashing... many of these generalizations on closer examinations are not tenable. for example you can't really say it was predictable that the english team would be looking poor because in the last years they were bad on international club stage. i mean the big clubs in england are playing with more than 80 % foreign superstars. it would be more suitable to say that english teams have got too much money which they spend mostly on foreign players and due to that english players hardly come trough..
apart from that i think the bad performance has got nothing to do with premier league itself.(same goes for the clubs..chelsea for example when it comes to player quality can easily keep up with bayern, barcelona or real madrid) they still have got good players who should be able to beat iceland..
it was just a coaching mess. same goes for spain.

That's just the Toulon squad that was weakened by the Euro's, U19 Euros, FA Cup final and Championship play-offs. I wouldn't read too much into that, especially given that we won it. It's the lack of good coaches being produced that is the bigger worry. I've no doubt that the quality of players will improve, you can see it in the youth teams. Plus, England's squad was the youngest at the Euros anyway.
