That qualifying spot to UCL for EL winner is a great incentive for wanna-be-big teams to take the Europa League seriously, nice move.

Otherwise, from what I read on british forums most fans look at EL with a certain disdain.. god knows why, it's definitely more their level nowadays than UCL.

Because the Europa League is a second-rate competition by definition. It's like winning the Championship or Segunda División. It's worth it for Liverpool or United as a way into the Champions League, but for Spurs it's a distraction from the league, which they have a serious chance of winning this season.
