Sergio Busquets

Busquets is not a traditional DM or destroyer. He is more than that and I classify him as CDM. That's why it's very hard to replace him.

Gasp revelation of the year. According to George Costanza Busquets is not a traditional defensive mid but is in reality a centre defensive mid...

What herb did you smoke before writing that?

No one talks about him but he was excellent tonight
Having Arthur next to him helped rejuvenate him.

He finally has a CM partner in front of him that is press resistant and has the legs to cover ground as well. Something Rakitic and Iniesta couldn't really provide anymore.

That's what happens when you give Busi another player that likes to pass and move. For years he only had Rakitic besides him which seriously limited the fluidity of the passing and thus limited Busi. For all of Rakitic's strong abilities this isn't one of them. He passes and stops moving. Arthur on the other hand does this brilliantly and gives Busi that one option to pass to.

Edit: El Flaco any chance you could find those 2 sombreros in succession by Busquets? Around the 85 minute if i'm not mistaken.

Wait what? lmao, he's doing this same as last year and a year before. Very underrated player, to think he rejuvenated because of another player. It helps a lot having Arthur, but Busi is a consistent player

No he actually struggled a bit last season due to the system changes and stuff. He looked like a totally different player with Spain compared to us.

Rejuvenate is a bit strong word but He looks much better like he did with Spain once he actually had another CM next to him that not only had the legs but also someone who was also press resistant. Iniesta no longer had the legs he once did and was showing his age on a number of ocassions and Rakitic was never really that type of CM Xavi/Iniesta and Arthur are that can help deal with the press and control the game.

I bet if Rakitic actually got rest and instead of being ran into the ground like Valverde is doing to him he would also look even better having Arthur next to him.

+10000000000000

Busi looks back to his old self now. Arthur's calmness in possession and constant movement off the ball is what we've been after since Xavi left. Not some 6 foot strong midfielder like some have suggested on here..

Busquets on ball last season was great, made many consider him our 2nd best player last year and there were almost no one saying he is struggling.
But his defensive problems has started to appear last year, and very few pointed to it.
Last night it is a bit of the same, he is still great under pressure for sure but he didn't have to face any player that cause him defensive problem so he looks great

It has to be also pointed out that we have worst defensive problems, when we don't control the midfield properly. Arthur helps with that a lot. Busi was never that great defensively apart from reading the game, but we had so much fluid possession in the past that this was rarely uncovered. His passing between the lines and making mickey out of the marker non withstanding.

Busquets' double sombrero vs. Inter.
