I don't think Real Madrid will be in a position to take advantage of it though. Their Galactico period is dead and burried, and they've been underwhelming with Cristiano Ronaldo in their side for the last 8 years, 1 title is pretty bad with him and all the money spent.

They are crap because we have Messi. Even though, they still won CLs lately).

Remove Messi from the maths, and Real will soon be winning a lot of trophies again.
It will be a 50:50 battle again.

Anyway, imagine how Barca's last 10 years would have look like if Messi played for Real since the age 18.
Xavi, Iniesta and others would be way, way less famous players today, without Messi and our trophies.
They would always be just awesome players who are always at the losing team, since Messi's team wins on majority of times.

Read that Messi is planning to be back against Deportivo, If ever, that would be ideal. At least he could be back at it before they face Man City.

It would've been a loss-loss situation for both Barcelona and Messi. It works both ways. Messi needed Barcelona more than we needed Messi, because the club is always bigger than just one player. Always.

Some make it sound here as if Barcelona is all Messi, but, in reality, if anything, it is Messi who owes more to Barca than the other way around. He might had never made it big without Barcelona trusting him when he needed it the most (growth hormone deficiency and all that). That's not to say he didn't pay the club back and then some with his amazing performances, but it was the club who made the first move, and without that first move, maybe we would've never heard of Messi. Who knows?

Messi is perfect for Barca for many reason. You got to remember he spent a good portion of his childhood at Barca as well and grew up through the system.
Big thanx to Rijkaard too as he knew how to slowly introduce him in without burning him out. Ronaldinho played his part as well as he took him under his wing from the start. Xavi, Iniesta and co. also worked for Messi.

I'd say both Barca and Messi benefited. A perfect symbiosis.

See DonAK, I wasn't trying to be creative, merely paraphrasing this type of arguments.

Barcelona isn´t all Messi but it´s not a coincidence that the clubs most successful era is with him as the key player. It´s ridiculous to think that Messi needed Barca to succeed, he was wanted by everyone ( remember the Gamper game against Juventus?) and with his playing style would have success everywhere. Sure Barca helped him become even better than he maybe would but an insane fast, dribbling and goalscoring winger would have success everywhere. What you say might be more true for other club legends like Busquets, Iniesta or Xavi who would have difficulties with their lacking physicality but not for the best player ever..

The Gamper game against Juventus was after he already passed through Barcelona youth ranks. Messi became the best player ever at Barcelona. Barca developed him. It is not like he was the best player ever when he was a kid and he had growth hormone deficiency is it?

That is what people don't get. He became the best player ever, arguably, also because the set-up in which he was developed was the right one. Without that setup, and that platform that was and still is Barcelona and La Masia, nobody knows what would've happened. And yes, there's a possibility that even a talent like Messi would've been lost. Hell, it's possible that his health problems would've ended his career at an early age. There are talents like Messi in the world that never make it because the elements do not line-up like they did with Messi. Barcelona is responsible for making sure they did line-up the right way.

People trying to imply Messi was destined to become the best ever and we were just lucky he chose us, or that we are nothing without Messi are funny. But I get it, many are Messi fans first and Barca fans second, so it's understandable to a point.

Believe it or not, talent can get lost if some things in their life don't fall into place the right way and at the right time.

Messi would have come through the ranks and dominated in any club. Had he been born into a little more money to pay for treatment himself, he might never have played for barca but would obviously still be the best in the world for years, with a different story. It's not like second best is even close.

idk what's the point of highlighting that without treatment, a 4ft10 Messi wouldn't be the same player. Duh.

Pure speculation. Only thing we know is that Barcelona helped Messi become what he is today, and without Barcelona it could have turned out differently for him. When we got Messi, his former team in Argentina didn't even want to pay for his surgery. He was hardly thought about as the future best player of all times. Let's be real here. Messi at Barcelona became who he is today, and when people take Barca from the equation and say he would've achieved the same things and he would've been just as good elsewhere, that's just minimizing the role and the importance Barcelona had in developing him all these years as a player and as a person, something I'm sure even Messi himself aknowledges very well.
