Douglas looked fairly decent attacking wise, but was horrendous defensively.

I think it's safe to say that if this guy played on the right side of our defence with Pique, there would be goals galore for our opponents.

The only position I can think of that would work for Douglas is Right Mid in a flat 4-4-2 and having a good enough RB behind him that can do all the defensive donkey work for Douglas.
But while it's clear that he's better going forward than he is defending but he's not a powerhouse either going forward that it's worth playing over other Wingers/Wide Midfielders. in Brazil he struggled at the RB spot and was pushed to a RM every now and then because he couldn't defend.
If he's not cut out for RB even in Brazil he's certainly never going to amount to anything in Europe in that position.

Yah.
Keirrison scored many goals at a young age and Henrique was very highly rated.
So in that sense they were just bets for the future that didn't pan out. Expensive ones.
Douglas is a player who was shit for his team in Brazil and we still signed him. All hail Master Zubi who didn't want to pay 4m for Asensio, but bought this cone when he went to Brazil to scout Rodrigo Caio.
