John Stones

John stones I don't know but how david luiz? He has very little defensive intelligence for him to be a barcelona defender.

I watch Chelsa games regularly since Conte took over, and he's great for them. He looks bad when asked to absorb pressure in a deep defense, because he is not a natural defender. But tactically, in the right setup, he can work great. Protected by a very good DM in Kante, he's delivering very good performances.

Luiz works for dominating teams, where he isn't put under constant pressure. Same as Stones.

For a 22 year old this guy gets too much shit. He doesn't have a decent partner in defence whom he could learn from or count on.

Luiz is virtually given a free role at back to try and win the ball without any real marking duties most of the time. Works well for him and is less exposed to being dragged out of position and leaving men spare.

True. That is because very rarely teams play directly on Chelsea's backline consistently, due to Kante's presence, and the high intensity they have up front from Costa, Hazard, Willian, Pedro.

This also happened at Barcelona, less so now. Teams would rarely play consistent attacks on our backline because of how good we were from midfield up at pressing and blocking the opponent. This is why players like Luiz, who could anticipate the play and intervene in the rare moments where something did get past our front/midfield pressure zones would have done well imo. This is also the reason why we could sign DM Mascherano from Liverpool back in the day and use him almost instantly as a CB. It wasn't because he magically turned into a world class CB in less than a season, but because a lot of what most CBs have to solve individually, in a conventional team, was solved by way of a more collective form of defending.

Exactly ..... if only Company had been fit it ....he'd have learnt so much and would be further ahead in his development .

I've raved about John Stones for three years at least and its only just lately he's getting some recognition .

Same goes for Liverpool's Emre Can who's also getting rave reviews these days ..

He's been shit in most of those three years you raved about him and you wanted us to pay 50m for him back then.

Jury's still out on him despite a good start to this season.

Umtiti over Stones anyday.

Lol, Stones was a calamity last season. He got ***** by Monaco. He will impress at times and be disastrous for the next five games. Umtiti is more consistent.

As it's been mentioned already Stones keeps getting left out to dry when he's trying to fill all the gaps ..
