Working in Barcelona

Hello everyone,

Thought I would float this on here. Finishing uni this year and hoping to head out to Barcelona this summer to try and get work and stick around for a bit. I speak Spanish (I assume I'm not going to need Catalan ..?), and so just thought I would try and get a job in a bar or something. Im at uni in the UK but actually from the US. Does anyone know what kind of visa I might need? I have heard it's not the same as the process of applying for a Greencard to the US here. And how tricky it is to find work?? Is there anyone here who is actually living there now??? :blush:

You could also consider teaching English.

Regarding a Visa what sort of Visa do you have for the UK?

Yeah if you teach English as a foreign language you do not have to know the native language. I'll be teaching in Asia(China probably) without knowing any of the native languages. :neymar:

yup it's the oldest one in the book, my uncle did the same teaching german in japan. just told the class as long as they're in this room, there's only german, end of story.

OK cool, cheers guys,

Ye perhaps I will look into teaching - if you can do it without Spanish I am sure they would be happy to have me with Spanish! It would be quite cool to do an exchange where I can teach English and at the same time learn Catalan.

Regarding questions above: I have a student visa for the UK, and I am studdying Engineering.

Are you caucasian?

If you are you'll be fine, if you're not you'll find it much harder to land the jobs and be prepared to be treated differently. Sad truth, speaking from experience.

Yes I also think the best for you could be finding a job as an english teacher. But do you know any other job? any studies?

Also a lot of pubs in the center hire english waiters so that they can deal with tourists.

Hello I would like to know how the situation has progressed and if you are finally working in Barcelona as you wanted to? I am motivated to find some work in Barcelona too. I would like to follow your steps. Any advice, opinion, point will be helpfull.

Honestly any kind of work. I work in the automotive industry now as a quality specialist and I am a production engineer. I've started learning spanish because i know that's a key thing. I can do there anything. I want to live there. have you ever lived there?
