What's Wrong with FC Barcelona?

Don't know, I just figured 'enlightenment' is a yardstick towards some sort of higher moral where we don't give a **** about 'race'. But what makes you think we're not actually regressing? In Sweden for example we didn't have any nationalist racist right wing parties until a couple of years ago, nationalism coupled with right wing extremism and even neo-nazism is on the rise across Europe. People have memories shorter than a goldfish - Le Pen, Jobbik, Ukraine's Svoboda and Sweden 'Democrats' to name a few are all gaining momentum in the 21'st century.

Now I don't know about Sweden's immigration statistics, but it seems that racism/ultra-nationalism spikes when immigration from foreign countries increases.

But why should that matter really, I mean immigration statistics for racism/ultra-nationalism? People should do their homework, the world has changed and nationalism is as old as the steam machine. We should have entered a new era where we value people equally, yet it seems we are actually regressing from post WWII mentality. Shit, lazy Swedes blaming immigrants for stealing their jobs when they do nothing all day sitting on their asses while many immigrants are studying and reflectively taking responsibility for their lives. You hear sh*t like "my grandfather built this country", well even if that was true you are sitting playing PS3 and smoking weed all day long and think a well payed job will jump in your lap in these day and age? If an immigrant 'steals' 'your' job without a social network or even speaking the language fluently you must really suck. Globalization has changed everything, you can't be uneducated and just stroll down to the nearest factory and get a job like 30 years ago in Sweden - all the ****** factories are in China, Bangladesh, Mexico, Vietnam and Cambodia. We've been screwed over, but not by the immigration mind you. You better step up and get yourself a Uni degree and get your head out of your *ss. Imo nationalism should be a thing of the past, cosmopolitanism should be the new idea - but people are ****** stupid, that's my honest opinion. But no, the racism/ultra-nationalism Sweden Democrats have almost 10% of the votes in Sweden now - disgusting, clueless and inhuman values!

Edit: Sorry for the rant :)

I know that it's wrong for people to do stuff like that. It's just that, historically, there have been trends seen with spikes in racism and increased immigration to the nation. For example in the United States during the 1850s, the Know Nothing Party, a highly nativist, or anti-immigrant, racist, political organization, was formed in response to the great influx of Irish and German immigrants to the States.

Fuc** up isn't it. The members from the Know Nothing Party were just fresh from the boat and than THEY are anti-immigrant and racist? That's why I say people have short memories. :stoner3:

I'll admit I don't keep up with Swedish politics, but this "rant" as you put it quite supports my point. Globalization is tearing apart boundaries between countries and continents. Racism is really discrimination based on colour of skin, and globalization makes that sort of thing harder and harder. As you yourself have said, the jobs are going to those who work for it, not people who sit on their asses expecting it to be delivered to them. In previous times, many many jobs were only allocated to people of a certain colour.

I'm not going to speak for Europe, as I have never lived there but my experiences in North America and Asia (yes there is and has always been racism in Asia too!), the literature that I have perused and the laws that are being passed all suggest that discrimination is reducing.

This wave of anti-immigration feelings is certainly not alien to North America (but they definitely don't get 10% of the vote lol) but historically speaking, it really is just a passing fad as compared to the institutionalized racism of the past.

Quite an interesting chat :)

i don't see a connection between nationalism and barca's problems, but zeni pretty much got it right in #92.

On one hand I do agree that we don't see the "institutionalized racism of the past". But on the other hand I see a lot of neo-nazism and good for nothing unreflective and uneducated neo-nationalism. I wish we always made steps towards better times, but that's all relative and subjective - my better is somebody else's worse, but now we're stepping into ontological questions and moral philosophy. The core of the moral is something that's been discussed back and forth by much much more educated men and women than me - I have no answer and I'm trapped in a sort of relativistic mindset on that one. Yet I do believe in equality between everybody, I do have some sort of socialistic values - but hey, people who are fascist today also believe their ideology is all that and sh*t.

We just steered of topic after the pic with the racist women imitating a monkey, one thing led to another :)

A warrior of a CB.
a long term replacement for Xavi, hard to find, but there will be players out there.

A player that makes passing look effortless.

Verrati/Kroos/Kovačić three good options to place in that CM role, and bring back the glory years.
