Miralem Pjanic

Yeah, but was his wish to join Barça strong enough for him to sit out for 6 months like Arda has? ;)

Anyone complaining about Arda and saying we should sign this or that player instead of him should ask himself this question. 99% players wouldn't be willing to sacrifice 6 months of their careers especially in a year before Euro/Copa.

It was his dream to play for Barca. Should've signed him instead of Arda..

Yes, we are not really sitting on our hands, doing nothing, as many implies. We just made our choice, acted, "showed great determination and got the deal done" a whole year ago: We chose the player that the coach pointed to, who was willing to miss ½ year, which was Luchos prefered model (instead of loaning out).

I wonder how much thrashing the board would have gotten the first ½ season if no midfielder was signed by then, when we needed depth and they waited to get Gündogan/Pjanic etc. later. NOW, when we look back and Arda did not contribute much, Roberto became a strong stand-in, Iniesta was fit when it mattered, that would have been wiser, but how could we know? It is hard to make a buy+loanout deal with established players (Gündogan would have been easiest because they had no CL - such clauses was necessary if we pulled of a Pjanic or even Pogba buy+loan back).

Right now it would be better if Arda could be replaced, but our midfield backup is not the weakest spot anyway, and he can only improve from last season, so we better use the money elsewhere. I think the club has plans of making a bid on Pogba next summer, if he is still available, and a Arda out + Pjanic in would ruin that as well.

"6 months of their careers"? Season start end of August so it's 4 months not 6

The average period of a football player career at senior level starts from 18-20 years old until 34-35, thats 17 years or 204 months. 4 months out of 204 is nothing, don't you think?

4 months without competitive football is significant for any player, especially if you are in your prime years. It is foolish to think it is no big deal for players to give that up.
But we could have looked for other ways like buying and loaning out = securing playing time for the player, but that would be complicated because the player would be cuptied + maybe have issues with group affiliation etc.

What a massive player. Should have signed instead of Arda and Gomes... Somethings are so easy to see... i dont get it.
Great passer, great skill, great vision, tremendous FK. Awesome, awesome. 38M.

26 years.

sigh...

I looked at his stats yesterday. Holy shit. 85% pass completion, 2000+ passes. Key passes 68, Assists 12, chances created 80, goals scored 10. (in Serie A)

The perfect fit for barça. Arda and Gomes are nowhere near Pjanic.

There were rumors of him coming to Barça this summer. Maybe he preferred Juve's offer.
