Great 2nd half. Was shaky in the 1st, but it's Malaga, so he can be.

Happy birthday and keep up your form, Ivan.

Workhorse with brains. Perfect. Arguibly the most consistent nowadays, in the second half of the season. Does simple things, but imortant things nevertheless.

People were lambasting him at the start of the season which was the same period in which we were employing the 4-3-3.

He has looked like a different player since switching to the 4-4-2. Not sure if he can cut it in a three man midfield since we're going to be forced to return to it with the arrival of Griezmann.

He looked good in that system in 14-15. Has more to do with form and coaching than the system.

honestly that season he played more like RM than CM, when messi was "RW" rakitic was the guy doing the dirty work messi should of been doing.
Messi has been doing the dirty work ever since Xavi declined . He is basically Barca's Modric and C. Ronaldo at the same time . Now if you expect him to do defensive work as well that's slavery

Dirty work is usually meant as defensive work which is still often underappreciated and overlooked by every day fans who are just looking for goals and "flashy" things like dribblings and passes. Luckily incompetent managers like Lucho and Valverde know importance of players like Raki for the team.

Rakitić has played 203 of the 227 Barça games in the past 4 years, more than Messi, Suárez, and even Busquets. Out of the 46 games under Valverde, Rakitić has played in 44 of them.
