Football experts, not Playstation-crazed kids posting on internet forums, consider Cesc to be our third most valuable player after of course Leo Messi and Iniesta. What is it that makes you feel superior to their knowledge? Xavi is our other great, but he is 32 now, and has not been at his best this season (still is a class act, and I am sure that he will play even better from now on)
I love each and everyone of our players (even Pinto) but to say that our 2nd most productive player is at best our number 6 is stretching it a lot.
Cesc has been the Guinea's pig in our formations this season, and has tried his socks off in each and every game irrespective of where Pep has ordered him to play. He has had a few average games, but he has also had some brilliant ones. And I have to repeat yet again that he has scored and assisted more than any other except the Best Player of all Times. Without any penaldos or free-kicks. Also, do keep in mind that Cesc did no have a full pre-season because he was mostly injured during the summer. When fully in condition, you will all see what a player he is.
Our Barca (and the Spain national side) depend on the quality of their midfielders for their recent astonishing run of success. Having a world-class midfield, is the key to protecting the defense from getting exposed all the time (really, how many times do our defenders have to repel attacks?) A world-class midfield also allows the front three to enjoy better service and does not put them in a place of having to beat multiple defenders again and again through pace (something that wears out forward players)
I am saying this, as a response to those who say that defenders have been our best players this season.
Many of you say that Puyol has been outstanding this season. I agree 100% with that statement. But is he really our number 2 player? I am not so sure of that. For me, our most crucial "defender" is Dani Alves (remember that Alves was the big addition in the passage from the Raijkard era to the Pep one) who provides a constant outlet for our attacks, and is the focus of support for Messi's play when coming from deep (maybe, the recent drop in form by Messi is partly due to Alves being rested or played out of position)
Anyways, when a midfielder, becomes your number 2 scorer and provider, you stand out and applaud, not talk him down with each and every opportunity (real or imaginary) that you get.
I have not doubted any of the players that people are here mentioning as having played well this season. I am only pointing out that lots of people in here are pathologically hostile to Cesc. Hell, you even use his scoring record against him, saying that that indicates that he is not a midfielder, but a poacher. And everyone who tries and defend Cesc is a fanboy. Good Lord...
