Zinedine Zidane

He's not getting exposed at all. Our monumental fuckups in giving out contracts to limited players for little to no reason is what's driving the squad shape and hence how much we're able to do with this team. No manager signs up to this unknowingly, Klopp would never agree to have to work with this.

Welcome to post success Barca of 2016 onwards.

Makes you think about his methods and how it's just him and his personality that dictates our limited 'systematic' approach. On one hand nothing we didn't know about him, but on the other there are a lot of things that go between the lines with him. Man's no coach, he's just a different kind of visionary. And that doesn't mean his vision is either the right one or the easy one to implement.

We call those people winners.

Mediocre manager.

disastrous verdict. If you ask the wrong questions you get the wrong answers...

Zidane has the right personality holding together a group of egocentric superstars. You need big names or super big personalities being Real's coach or you fail in this club.
He might be wrong for Dortmund or Pool though - because deep analysis and development might not his thing but he fits for real.

Last Saturday his team was overall better but could not score...

The message is simple - great players know how to play, all you gotta do is convince them that a certain approach for a given game is the right one. Result varies only based on coach's judgement of the game, which is the reason Zidane does make mistakes and is arguably guilty of nepotism (Benzema, Isco, Vazquez, CKM in 2017/18). It's hit or miss, but when it hits, it really hits and when it misses, it doesn't actually (yet) miss very terribly. Only handful of times he's really had his ass handed to him and not only by way of misjudging the game i.e. December Clasico 2017, Wolfsburg 2016, Juventus @ Bernabeu 2018. Otherwise he's got an incredible record of judgement calls, both for matches and for players. It's a testament of his football mind when he can make an underperforming team still turn up for CL with a right approach almost 100% of the time.

Hes good at not standing in the way of his team. If he has the best team it will perform like the best team - and thats a very good quality. Just compare that to coaches who want to make things about themselves (for example Tuchel) or are gutless (Ernesto).

Yeah. What's more impressive though is that Zidane recruitment of younger lot is based solely on whether he sees it in their mind that they are mature and can perform like a great player, no matter the age (see Fede, Mendy as opposed to Ceballos, Llorente).

All the more puzzling how he rates Pogba. It enrages those that don't like his aloof attitude. To me it's possibly just another case of nepotism and disregarding certain character problems like he does with Benzema.
Which is why I think Jović is not doomed here. Zidane wouldn't have given a nod if he was mediocre. Even Theo who sucked here is now really good and found his niche at Milan.

I dont like to touch that topic (youth developement) as its random as fuck, but Mendy for example has to play given his and Marcelos age (and decline) - he was the obvious choice for LB on the market as well. Fede was a good call, but I personally never thought Ceballos or Llorente looked in any way special. Hes the only real success story under Zidane? Other than him the core has been pretty much set:

- Militao is a non factor (but a good talent)

- Vinicius and Rodrygo are weird cases as they are pitted against each other, constantly switching whos on top, but when it matters still 2nd choice behind Isco, Bale. Cant be good for their developement

- Jovic arguably had to play a bigger role this season, but he doesnt look convincing (and not like a lone striker at all) - we will see how that developes. But doesnt look like he has "Zidanes nod"

--> I wouldnt call Zidanes judgement impressive.
