    Rafael Marquez

    Name: Rafael Márquez Álvarez
    Position: defender
    Place of birth: Zamora (Mexico)
    Date: 13-02-1979
    Height: 182 cm
    Weight: 74 kg

Rafa is the first Mexican to play for Barca. He started his career with playing for Atlas Guadalajara (1996-99), then he continued his journey to Europe, more exactly to Monaco AS. He won French Cup with his team and in the same year became the captain of the Mexican national team. After moving to a bigger club, namely Barca he had no troubles with adapting to the new environment. His performances were quite good and soon he made a perfect (coach--->player) relationship with Big Frank. Improving and expanding his football knowledge enabled him to play as a defensive midfielder, thus making him a versatile and very good player. His steep growth as a player was several times abruptly stopped by injuries but he has once again seemed to find his old touch in this season.

    Trophies:

    FC Barcelona
    2006/07 Spanish Supercup
    2005/06 Champions League
    2005/06 League
    2005/06 Spanish Supercup
    2004/05 League

    Monaco
    2002/03 French League's Cup
    1999/00 League

    Mexican National Team
    2003 Golden Cup
    1999 Confederation Cup

    Comps will do that.

Reminds me, the other day I was looking up YouTube for Faubert clips and he didn't even look impressive in a compilation. That says a lot.

Marquez didn`t exactly shine vs. USA did he? Maybe it`s time to consider Pique (got very good ratings vs. England) as a first choice for CD

Piqué did make a few mistakes against england to be honest. Firstly he was lucky not to be sent off in the first half (heskey was clearly onside) and also he made a few bad clearances.

Thanx for that, I only watched some parts of the game. Guess I took those ratings for granted

Its a shame sergi didnt get any minutes. Would have been nice to see him play. However as it is he still remains an unknown anomoly to those who dont watch la liga.
