    Default Rafael Marquez

    Name: Rafael Márquez Álvarez
    Position: defender
    Place of birth: Zamora (Mexico)
    Date: 13-02-1979
    Height: 182 cm
    Weight: 74 kg

Rafa is the first Mexican to play for Barca. He started his career with playing for Atlas Guadalajara (1996-99), then he continued his journey to Europe, more exactly to Monaco AS. He won French Cup with his team and in the same year became the captain of the Mexican national team. After moving to a bigger club, namely Barca he had no troubles with adapting to the new environment. His performances were quite good and soon he made a perfect (coach--->player) relationship with Big Frank. Improving and expanding his football knowledge enabled him to play as a defensive midfielder, thus making him a versatile and very good player. His steep growth as a player was several times abruptly stopped by injuries but he has once again seemed to find his old touch in this season.

    Trophies:

    FC Barcelona
    2006/07 Spanish Supercup
    2005/06 Champions League

    2002/03 French League's Cup
    1999/00 League

    2003 Golden Cup
    1999 Confederation Cup

Regular first 11 player under Pep. He is decent imo, but somewhat I fear for our CB`s in the coming schedule. Both Puyol and Marquez are slowish.

Thats what Im afraid off. Our Center Backs our extremly slow, if we face strikers with pace and speed .. we're goners. Maybe when Caceres develops he looks like he has some speed in him, but you can't wait that long. Like if we played against Madrid, I can't imajine what Robben and Higuain would do to our defense.

Same thoughts. We still have Ceceres and Pique.
