Apparently Xavi is furious with him as well lol. But wont speak out about it at the time being.

^Well, you cannot blame Abidal because Xavi leaked their meeting and put Abidal in a very difficult position. That is why Abidal said that he did not make an offer, he was annoyed and said that he had several meetings with other managers and nothing was leaked.

So are we going to get 20+ pages of hating on Xavi now or is that only a thing when it’s Messi speaking up against Abidal’s bullshit?

Absolute disaster of a sporting director. But it isn't a surprise considering who his boss is, after all who would accept working with someone as incompetent as Barto if not for a fraud. He is a legend at the club but with each passing month he is tainting that image more and more and I'm afraid that if he continues his embarrassing work he will become hated among the fan base. Just have the decency and quit man!

Loved Abidal as a player and initially thrilled to see him return to the club but apparently did not heed the advice, surely, of his former teammates about joining Bartomeu's board - especially since he had previously been involved with Laporta's last election attempt.

In his defense, no one knows the extent to which he is capable of his job since he's had it only for 19 months and came in with zero experience for the role. Moreover, it is highly unlikely that for 12 of those months he was able to challenge a bully like Segura who regularly clashed with Fernandez. Even with De Jong, it was Bartomeu that had to close the deal so it's unclear what Abidal actually brings to the table as SD

This fiasco with Valvere, pursuing replacements like Xavi and then being called out in the media by Leo? Eric beat cancer but I don't believe he'll make it into next season nor should he from all accounts

He was rarely criticized by Barca fans on here before this window.

Point being you can't transfer/lose 5 first team players (Todibo, Alena, Wague, Perez, Suarez) in January then sign NO ONE.

This did nothing but weaken the team significantly. I mean how stupid can you get?

Perhaps our club is in big financial trouble and barto is bullshitting everyone? I don’t trust this board one bit. Truth will come out only when they step down or the successor comes in

IMO it reeks more of mismanagement and incompetence. If you look at the way they handled the Valverde dismissal and how they set about getting a replacement, it's obvious these guys in the sporting department don't have a clue about what they're supposed to be doing. Too much flip flapping and indecision. The entire January transfer window was a botched job. Teenagers whose only experience is playing FM would probably do a better job and squad management and handling transfers.

It could also be a case where Barto uses his veto and is getting involved in all the sporting details and not letting the sporting department handle their end of the job. IIRC, Abidal wanted Valverde out in the summer but Barto knew he would look like a fool and blocked the dismissal.

Hope he doesn't turn into another Zubi. If he's not cut out for the job, he should resign with dignity.

One last overpriced panic buy as Dembele replacement though

It's hard to tell who actually makes the decisions when it comes to the squad, but these past few years whoever was in charge did a bad job. There are some good transfers of course both for new players and sales but overall it just seems poorly planned. Idk how much of that is on Abidal, but this far there also isn't anything that indicates he's a good sporting director.

Yes, it's one thing to have hits and misses with the players that you acquire. But when you fail to even sign the minimum number of players needed, you have achieved a very special, inarguable level of incompetence. This team needs professional management ASAP, it would be impossible to do worse than flirting with not even fielding 11.

Abidal is incompetent.

Don't need to say more. At least Robert despite some of his bad signings had his transfer windows planned beforehand and knew what he wanted. Abidal just seem clueless and random.

Have a feeling this upcoming summer window will prove to be a major disaster and set the team further back.
