I remember reading how Abidal recommended him to us and wanted us to sign him on several occasions.

While he was clearly rated in France he flew under the radar everywhere else. People talked about Laporte,Marquinhos,Stones,Varane etc you know all the popular young CB's everyone wanted and to be fair proved it as well. Umtiti was in the same age group as those guys and despite his good season in France he wasn't talked nearly as much and like I said flew under the radar for Big teams.

But it did work out in our favor as we managed to get him for a good price and sure enough he's worked out big time for us and showed his quality to the world. finding quality LCB's are rare these days and Umtiti is one of them.

Look at how hard his job is out there, it'd actually be 100% understandable for him to mess up every now and then. But it simply doesn't happen. He rarely fucks up at the back compared to other CB's. I actually can't believe it's possible for him to defend that well given how much he constantly has to defend.

AND on top of that he was making slicing passes through multiple lines way up the pitch, finding Deulo/Suarez etc. He always does it and, though he doesn't opt for aerial long balls he is a master of long ground passes and through balls and all between lines. Our best defender both on the ball and off it.

This! His passing especially long ones are incisive and accurate. His calm under pressure is outstanding especially considering the mess we are in. If we're not careful PSG will come shopping again. So underrated.

It's criminal how little his buyout clause is.

60 million while the likes of Paulinho's is 120? I mean seriously. that's a price the likes of City could pay.
