I am a bit confused here. Some reports say Pele scored the most goals in one calendar and other say it was Gerd Muller?

Gerd Muller has the record with 85. Messi has passed Pele's personal record.

It is because 12 of Muller goals came in a tournament that was created as a preseason warm up to 1972/73 Bundesliga season, because of the 1972 olympics that year, Bundesliga start was pushed back 3 weeks so the German football federation organized this one of tournament to fill the gap. It was organized as an official tournament but since it only was disputed because of the Olympics, some people regard that tournament simply as a preseason tournament that should not be counted. Anyway, the goals are official so 85 it stands.
