8 - Pedro Gonzalez "Pedri"

Best thing for him would be to sit out the Euro this summer and fully recover.

But we know it won't happen.

Hopefully he doesn't go back to the Olympics.

He just needs to have a full recovery from his hamstring issue. I'm not knowledgable enough in that area, but whatever it is, needs to be a long term plan and probably without him being a bonafide starter for that period, be it 6 months, 12 or more.

I get the dilemma, he has so much quality when he has the ball that it must be hard not to select him. But this is becoming a recurring thing now.

Don’t blame him… none of our midfielders look good in front of defence. Had a nice game I thought.

Sell whoever (apart from a select few) but get two physical midfielders in that can play DM… that’s all I ask for this summer.

He was good helping in the buildup but is painful to watch him trying to run around and defend. He moves like a 40yo.

Well, that was 17-18 years old Pedri.
Now Lamine is 16 and played 2450 minutes and counting at 16, with 6 games to go, a Euro and potential Olympics.
And next season he might be a starter from the beginning, with a possibility of Raphinha being sold and Ferran turning into his only competition.

Barca thinks more about now than future, because coaches rarely have long future here while they don't have quality for now.

We have already burned Pedri and Fati, and so far it doesn't feel we have learned from those mistakes.

He seems like he has a real problem and it's not just bad rehab.

I highlighted it before, but we're 2 or 3 years in to his 'physical transformation' and he's literally no different. It's not normal for someone to begin strength training and gain almost no muscle in several years. If that happens, either something is wrong with the training, or wrong with the person.

A young athlete like him, especially with how much time he has spent injured (gives you time to work in the gym as you don't have to train regularly and tire yourself out) should be in much better shape by now.

He doesn't even really have a toned look - his build is just stick thin and really really frail. At least, the weaker guys like Gavi or Fermin or De Jong are fit and lean despite being small, so you know they probably do physical work on the side, with Pedri, I really doubt he is doing any effective work. It's either that or he has a physical health problem, which is also possible given how hard he's been pushed over the last years. Its not uncommon for serious physical health issues to develop after extreme stress on the joints and muscles.

Don't need him to have more muscle. More stamina is what he needs.
His body is built for stamina already, he is as thin as you can be without being too weak to run.
His problem won't be cardiovascular, because if his cardio is bad with such a small frame, then it is unchangeable. The problem is going to be muscular fatigue and strength because his muscles are probably too weak or unconditioned to play high intensity football.

Some things you can solve with cardio work but some muscular problems need strengthening.

I am so sad to say this but Pedri is not it. For whatever reason, call it injuries, overplaying or whatever, he is not the player people fantasised he could be.
He looks like an underdeveloped youngster against men. He does have great technical skills and a good football iq but that's about it.

Good point. Lamine does seem more naturally blessed physically and seems to have better energy management. So hopefully he doesn't suffer the same.

But let's hope for his sake he doesn't go to both tournaments. We all know he would play every minute in both because Spain don't have a right attacking midfielder like him.

Well, Lamine has very close body to Fati and is suffering more brutal tackles from younger age. But let's hope he is blessed we injuries because that is the only thing that can save us.
