He's not one of the best CBs in the world. He can be, or not. He just failed in his first big test. Until he is back at that level and proves himself, he can't be one of the best in the world.

I am pissed off because I bought into the idea that some of our players are ready for the elite level. Turns out, they are not. I knew the squad is not top, but for our best 2 players to be so shit on the biggest night, that's very very disappointing.

Vitinha schooled our midfielders Pedri and De Jong. And so did Barcola with our defenders, both Araujo and Kounde. In CL you don't get many chances. If you are top class, you show it when it matters most. On THAT night.

That's fine. He's a good player, not a bad one. Elite ones make a difference in big matches, not league games only.

That's when the pressure is at its highest, when a big error could be the end of an entire campaign. An elite player has to rise above that and control it.

It's harsh, but that's why there are so few elite players in each position.

If we can get for free decent CB, I would sell Araujo just because of money.

Selling Araujo for 85-90mil and getting Nico Williams and lets say Zubimendi/Kimmich for combined fee of 100mil is not worst thing ( I don't like this CDMs hut they are only we are linked with).

I think getting CB is much easier then finding CDM and LW.

It's all up to him. Come back at this level and show it was a one time thing. Do that and he'll be top class, or elite, or the correct terminology for a star defender that impacts the biggest games.

League games have far less pressure. Need more than that.

We can't judge players based of one game bro.

Can probably list all big defenders and none went to the CL final on there first try.

You're saying he isn't great because he failed in his FIRST CL QFs.

PS barcola didn't school Kounde, Kounde was pretty much perfect when we had 11 man on the pitch over the two legs.

Bit hard to make a top3 CB list when teams play with 2 or 3 starting each.

World class for me broadly means a player who is good enough to compete at the top levels of the sport in his position. There can be as many as 100 or as many as 1 in any given position, it depends what the depth of talent is there and what the difference is between the best players. If there are 20 or so roughly even ability CBs, for example, applying an arbitrary top 3 or top5 ranking wouldnt represent that well.
