You guys, I'm actually not against selling him - if we could ship him and Torres (yeah and of course Romeu and don't extend Alonso and Martinez) it would bring in some cash and we could buy a proper DM, versatile LW (Nico!!!) and cheap backup midfielder and give some B players like Fernandez, Bernal, Darvich and Casado some chances in midfield - at least 1 of them will make it in Barca, I'm pretty sure of that.

I have never seen a "world class midfielder " that cannot make a pass forward to save his life. Dejong is excellent at retaining the ball and absorb pressure and has good work ethics and it stops at that. Next

He is another one of "he is the best of what we have", because this teams lacks depth and quality in general.
The difference is that for the 2 interiors we have 5 players (Frenkie/Pedri/Gavi/Gundo/Fermin) and we can afford to downgrade with a sale.
He isn't a top player though, never was and never will.

He has moments but he really just isn't the player we hoped he'd become, certainly not this 'generational' midfielder people touted him as at Ajax. He and Ten Hag are still living off that CL campaign, specifically the match vs Madrid.
For the wages and transfer fee, selling him is a no brainer but can't imagine him wanting to join United and no top CL teams are interested.
