When is Aguero worse than Higuain anyway? Seems to me Higuain misses a lot of sitters, for being such a clinical finisher.

Both Aguero and Higuain have the capabilities to make you want to kill yourself at times. Both could miss chances left and right and playing very frustrating if that's not their night (the feeling Veron used to give me back then). Unfortunately none of them are anywhere close to someone like Batistuta who was a true #9. Even though they offer more than him on the pitch but they're not as sharp as Batistuta was infront of the goal.

And that's the thing, what Argentina really needs is an efficient finisher to play with Messi and Aguero. Higuian can play like a dumbass but he's more likely to score goals out of nowhere than another ballhog like Tevez or Lavezzi.

Argentina don't even need Batistuta, they could even use a prime Crespo.

This thread ought to be better discussed in the Argentina section.

But Higuain is less selfish and does a lot of running off the ball to open space for Messi as does Kun. The seleccion do need to find an alternative nine though. Barcos is the one they are running with at the moment. Denis is getting on a bit, Maxi Lopez has never convinced anyone, Milito again is ageing and never did anything for at seleccion level (Copa 2007 yikes), di Santo is talented at setting up goals but hardly ever makes his presence felt in the box like a nine should.

The others are too young to assess. Gio Simeone is an excellent prospect though at 17, and Facundo Ferreyra has found new life after leaving relegated Banfield. Again there is a surfeit of shadow nines.

Dimichelis is another disaster that needs to be kept away from the seleccion.

Cambiasso is doing well but who knows what age will do with him ? Sabella has made the cut and disposed of the old guard and it was time to do so. No more recalls for Riquelme and none needed given that Leandro Paredes is also emerging .Very like Roman but without the personality impediments and ego.

Rojo strangely enough has done well for the seleccion as an attacking fullback. Ansaldi is a good option but unless he leaves Kazan he will not be looked at.

Otamendi still has a lot of convincing to do. He is still too reactionary and prone to going to ground. I would want to see him in a higher league than the Sagres to really assess him. Caballero though as an experienced backup to Romero is a good shout. Bizarri as well.

Tevez is done for good with the national team. All they really need at forward are Messi, Aguero, Higuain and Lavezzi. It's unlikely they will need to go further down the depth chart. Higuain would have to be the best finisher of any #3 forward on any team.

These four are fantastic, and they play well together. Any other nation would take this group over what they have now.

Lamela would be a better option than Neymar now that I really think about it. Plays in Europe, very talented, and very versatile.

may be we can count masche as a defender :p

No. No. No. Keep him in his best position as a defensive midfielder orchestrating attacks from deep. Lamela bagged another for Roma last night. Kid keeps growing and should be in the next Argentina selection as well. Has it all.

He is one of the most promosing young player...Roma wouldn't sell him for anything less than 40 million
