Fernando Torres

It's incredible what a difference a moment like this could do.

Torres looked better against United, he already scored a piece and he was so close to score another one. Imagine how helpful for his confidence two goals against United at Old Trafford would be. Of course we wouldn't know, but it could set him on fire after a performance like this. Goal in the next game, another one after that and hey - maybe it's a light in the tunnel.

Instead of that, he makes the most unbelievable miss of his carreer in a moment, when he's simply desperate for goals. And now he's back to Hell, maybe even closer to its depths than he was before.

Football is an amazing game.

I though of him finished before the United game, but confidence is something that can easily be earned back.

I see Torres striking back.

He totally took your defense apart on four (4) occasions. You were lucky that he blew 2 of them, and Ramires blew the other.

I think people seem to forget that United are playing with a make-shift back four. The only first choice defender in there is Evra.

United were missing Vidic. Nobody else.

Mancunians will have to decide, are Phil Jones and Smalling great players, or is old Rio and Rafael better than them?

Jones and Smalling are the new Baresi and Maldini, just better.

But that is not where the irrationality of Mancunians ends.

At one and the same time, Jones and Smalling are Baresis and Maldinis, plus, Rio Ferdinand (who has been mostly crap for the better part of 2 years) and Rafael (who has been crap since birth) will improve the team once they return.

Rio is a superb defender (the best at the club) when he's fit, but that's happening less and less these days so it's best to use him sporadically and run with the younger guys like Jones and Smalling, who are both awesome now and yet also have room to grow.

and for now, I'd put Smalling ahead of Rafael, purely coz the Da Silva twins are a bit fragile and should be handled carefully for the next year or so 'til they grow out of their injuries. the future of that defence is definitely Rafael-Smalling-Jones-Fabio.

Jones and Smalling are the new Baresi and Maldini, just better.

indeed!

Rafael and Fabio you can forget about.

Smalling is decent, but I think not much more than that.

Jones.

That boy looks like the real deal.

Rio is comfortably better than both Smalling and Jones at CB, there is probably an argument for either one ahead of Rafael though.
