Looks like Gael Etock signed with Chelsea for the next 4 years. Barca will be compensated for the player, but no amount was disclosed. I wonder why he didn't want to stay and play on Barca B team. Perhaps because he had already lost his start to Dongou and Delofeu

AS are reporting that Chelsea have swooped in for the player...Supposedly the player will go on loan to Sporting Lisbon at first

Don't know how to feel of this, was he ever going to cut it? Someone tell me the Chelsea reaction also!

Everything I've read in the last couple of seasons suggested that the club had bigger hopes for Dongou so we'll see I guess

It's probably the best thing for him, Barca and Dongou. Let's just hope he gets more playing time in Portugal than here. This should mean Dongou will play pretty much every game next season! :)

Btw, Etock is the first product of the Samuel Eto'o foundations - Barca cooperation. I'm glad to see he's been given the opportunity to succeed in Europe.

... but why would Chelsea want him?

Maybe an element of being caught up in the post-CL final reaction. Some might laugh at that but seriously, i think the perception is over here in blighty is that he came from La Masia, he is bound to be good!

Chelsea would also want him for the fact they have barely any young promising strikers ready to step it up.

Drogba and Torres aren't exactly that young either, especially with constant rumours heating up Drogba's departure.

Chelsea is the worst possible club for him to go to. Not disrespecting Chelsea or anything, but it's a fact that they largely prefer ready-made experienced players in their prime.

Look at what happened with Sturridge. A young English striker who was improving massively on loan at Bolton, barely 21 and he can't even get a look in. Most rumours have him being offered to Newcastle, West Brom, and Bolton ona permanent transfer.

He was never going to make it ahead of Dongou and Gerard imo.
I agree. So I think it was a good decision for him. He won't be playing at Chelsea this year. He will be on loan to Sporting Lisbon and hopefully for him he will get some playtime over there, mature, and go to London when he's ready.
