The physical side of things is certainly there as well, we see it in high jump, long jump, sprints, marathons, lifting and so on. No woman would touch an elite man in these physical sports. In all these sports you can enjoy the women's competition as much as the men's though. The women can often have superior technique in these isolated movements, making it more enjoyable to watch. And I am certain that I, as a retired couch potato, would stand no chance against the best women, not even in the bench press competition of my body weight (women are at the most disadvantage compared to men in this movement).
The difference in football skill between the sexes can better be explained by the same mechanics that the difference in chess quality is explained: partly by women in general lacking a bit of determination, there is also a smaller pool of women even starting to play, but a large part is also the difference in spatial IQ between the sexes. In a chess game, you make 50-100 moves, and physicality is a small factor. Football is infinitely more complex, and you make 50-100 decisions every minute, counting very low. As the women make every decision worse than the men, the difference will be very large, nevermind the difference in physique. We see that men can win against women despite being very inferior physically.
When I watch a women's football game, the striking thing is not the lack of physique.
