imagine if they gave this kind of contract to other players like bumsquets or Pique (of course with less money but still)

30 mil of of loyalty bonus to busquets :VdB:

Barto might be a retard, but if numbers are true, we were really paying to Messi "pharaohs amounts of money".

From what I have read:
- from June of 2017, Messi is earning 138m Euros per season
- 115 millions bonus if he extends (or stays, I didn't understand that part but apparently he got this bonus also)
- 78m loyalty bonus

For example, Lewandowski is earning 20m per year and Zlatan 7m per year.

When you add Messi's loyalty bonuses and extension bonuses, he is earning 150-200m per year.

Is current Messi 20-28 times better than current Zlatan and 7-10 times better than Lewandowski?

Someone will reply: you are attacking our Goat.
The point is that we have crazy and unrealistic wages.

We are paying Messi and majority of players as if they are goats from 2011.

Insane wages paired with 165m for Coutinho, 150 for Dembele, 120 for Griezmann, 40 for Arda, 30 for Trincao
= 500-ish M from transfers and 550-600m for Messi only in the last 3 years.

These two factors alone are worth 1b debt.
And this is without wages for Busi, Cou, Dembele and similar.

They are paid like Ballon D Or winners, yet in reality they play like grannies and get smashed 8:2.

I am usually not a fan of young players, but seriously, sell everyone and play Pedri, Ilaix, Fati, Araujo, Mingueza and co.

They can't be much worse, yet they cost 300-400m less per season.

And for FC Barcelona this is actually cheap. Since Ronaldinho left and Messi became the star of the team in 2008, the club's revenue has increased from 300 to almost a billion euro. Or in other terms, Messi alone brings in between 300 and 500 million euro of revenue to the club every season. If he leaves, all contracts with sponsors will have to be renegotiated down probably over 50%, that is the impact of having a global star player with the media impact that messi has. Camp Nou matchday ticket revenue is up several time over what it used to be before Messi became the media star he is, his impact on matchday ticket revenue is eassily in excess of 50 million euro every season. And when we look at merch sales, again he is alone 30-50% of those when combining the direct sales and indirect sales he generate.

What most people don't get is that the most expensive players often are the cheapest, this is true for players like Ronaldo, Zlatan, Aguero, Lewandowski, they simply end up bringing in far more revenue for their clubs than whatever amount they are paid by their clubs. This is also true for other team sports like Basketball or Ice hockey, Stephen Curry is the cheapest player in the NBA despite having the highest salary, just look at Golden State Warriors revenue income since he became the NBA star player and it should be pretty obvious even to a complete idiot.

On what basis can you claim Messi brings in 300-500m revenue?

Unlikely to be anywhere near that.

This is a myth that has never been substantiated. There is no way he is bringing in 300m, let alone 500m every year.

Is this new news to you ?

Does it really surprise you that arguably the goat in the most popular sport in the world can earn this much ? LMAO.

I'm more intrigued that a guy like Firpo can earn millions at his age, while being useless at his job.

People should get it into their heads that football is the most dirty and corrupt sport on the planet. Messi or other top footballers are just taking advantage of the current situation.

I would do too, who wouldn't?!

On the basis of delusion or just pure ignorance.
You'd need to ignore the recent financial trends across the big footballing teams over the last 10 years to even come to such a ridiculous conclusion.

OMG people turning this into capitalism discussion .... go check US sports contracts for players who last 3-5 years !!!

Everyone knew and KNOW that Messi & Ronaldo are having the biggest contracts it can get ... and in 10 years those contract will sound like a joke !!

Same can be said about some singers right ? comedians too ? how about a trader who got 300mil in 12hours ?.... some people are living in a cave

You totally missed my point.
Obviously everyone knows the very high salaries of the sports and entertainment stars;
in this economic regime it is normal for the best sportsman to earn insane amounts.
But, YES, it's a discourse that has to do with capitalism, with how unfair these huge salaries are (not Messi's in particular) and how western society is shit (and also the cause of the fact that the 80% of human being, and of the users of this forum are totally idiots who run after fiake values).

This is why I say that it is stupid to be surprised by this contract, especially when the whole system is rotten.

For those that are saying that Messi alone brought us all the marketing revenue, is it still worth to pay him that much? Didn?t CR7 also bring in a ton of money to RM and now Juve also? Does his salary include his contributions to marketing?
