Ernesto Valverde

it drives me fucking crazy, how are you people still comparing valverde, an actual winner of trophies(+decent spell at bilbao) to setien, a nobody, who`s achieved exactly zero in his career, despite being older than the former?

None of this "oh, but valverde played boring, cowardly football, therefore he is worse than the plague!", there are levels between him and setien, get a grip!

love ;)

I already told you. Make a poll to change the name if you wish.
It's a forum, things should be taken lightly, but If it bothers you, you do have the freedom to not visit or try to change it. By repeatedly saying "change the name" and "this" in this thread, I am not sure you are accomplishing your goal.
I get it. 🙂

This comparison is misplaced to begin with. Setien stayed 6 months and was not allowed to do basically anything.
What we saw on pitch was less 'Setien's style' but the autopilot the Amigos selected after neglecting Setien.
So, you cannot even judge type of football, let alone pass a judgment based on trophies.

Exactly. Tried to do something and was basically cucked early on by the veterans. You can't make an opinion about a manager like that. The "problem" with the guy was that he wanted to play something, and nobody helped him achieve it, so he gave up. Especially after the meeting with Bartomeu, who, no surprise, sided with the players as usual.

I was wrong to blame Valverde as harshly as I did, but the ones blaming Setien for those months of chaos are just as wrong. He had an impossible task on his hands.

Ernesto was class and Messi was three levels better under him. It can not be a coincidence that Leo become much weaker after Valverde left.

Ernesto was good and consistent in the league, except after Anfield when the whole team just collapsed and didn't recover all next season. Nearly everybody saw that. It all went to shit from there and we were starting to get outplayed by fecking Levante, Osasuna, and Granada in Spain. Quique Setien, who was indeed terrible, made more points than him that season.

So there are levels between what Valverde showed before Anfield and after Anfield, even in La Liga (EV was poor in CL all around). The only difference between Valverde and Setien at Barca - IN THAT EXACT PLACE, not two years before where Messi was scoring for fun - is that Valverde would've lost the Bayern game 5-0 instead of 8-2.

EV would've no doubt lost La Liga last season. It's easy to see. We were going down in form big time compared to last season, and Madrid were going up, improving and winning more points as the season progressed. That's why EV was sacked in the first place, the team was going from bad to worse and Madrid kept improving, unlike their previous 2 dud domestic seasons.

In an ideal world, Valverde is sacked after Valencia Cup final with 2 good(ish) seasons under his belt. Setien is not named as a desperate attempt mid season with a broken team, Koeman comes a year earlier so even if he is sacked by a new board in the summer he still gets 2 years, which is fine. Everybody wins, that Bayern fiasco is probably not happening. Reconstruction is at a more advanced state today. Better on all fronts.

yeah thats right, we saw an another Barca after Anfield but I still wonder why Messi has played better under him, even in 19/20. For example his 2 matches against Atletico or against Dortmund - two big teams but Messi outplayed them. I just hope its a bad temporary form and he will come back.

RUBBISH ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

Valverde weathered the storm first part of the season, serious injuries to Suarez, Messi, Alba etc. Still 2 points ahead of Madrid, no doubt Valverde wins the Clasico breaking Madrid's spirit and we win the league again.

Give Valverde a fit squad like Disgusting fraud CUCKIEN had and he wins the league EASILY.

It's so cringe when people say but but more points that season. Lmfao Setien would be lucky to get half of Valverde's points without Messi

Messi is expected to play worse and worse as he ages. And sometimes as you age, the decline can be sharp even from season to season. It's almost certainly not related to the manager.

Messi was meh for the whole course of 2019-2020, with the exception of AM away he mostly made the difference against weak sides we are expected to beat. He was as dreadful in the clasico on Camp Nou with EV, as with Setien later on.

True, its not a fair comparison.
Valverde had so many opportunities to fail, and he never did(in Spain), while Setien failed at the very first moment.
Levels.

Valverde failed on many different fronts. Depends how you define failure.
I am not gonna start this discussion, but we are legitimized to pass a judgment on Valverde after 2.5 years, contrary to Setien

EV was actually kept because of Koeman, he was the man to take over but only after Euros.
Euros moved one year, in 2021 there will be new board and a new manager will be hired, he has heart problems and not young anymore to wait for a club job in few years, he leaves NT for us.

Bruh he had like all of his best players available in the 2nd leg against Liverpool with a 3 goal advantage and manages to fuck it up against the likes of Xherdan fucking Shaqiri, Origi and shit like that while their best and most important attackers were missing.
