So what happens if Man City submit an offer for Messi and Barcelona accepts?

Messi side have already submitted their fax saying he is no longer a Barcelona player. So how do they come back and negotiate a contract with Man City? That will be an admittance that they are still under contract.

You see that Messi side have truly boxed themselves into a corner that the only option that Jorge Messi can argue is that the clause has been paid and he will leave for free.

Likely scenario is that Messi stays 9 months, with or without playing, and next season moves wherever he wants or re-signs with a new president.

But the smarter move from Messi should have been to announce that this is his last season at Barcelona and that after the 8-2, to apologise to the fans and that he will give everything in his last season to leave with Barcelona as CL winners. Because quite honestly, the final year project of the current board to clear out the seniors and transition with players added who understand Koemans system, and bringing back hard work, is logical.

Exactly what I have been saying previously.

How can Barca begin to negotiate with City who would then have to admit he is under contract and be terrible for them if went to FIFA to agree fee.

City/Messi need to get realistic and agree he is under contract but wants to leave and make a significant offer.

Otherwise it goes to court, all three parties miss out and he moves at 34 next summer.

so what's your theory here? messi intimidates the current players in the squad with his skill or that messi is so good, other players will always look meh when playing alongside him?

also, wouldn't keeping messi for one more season be the same thing basically? we would still have to replace the oldies that are leaving now and griezmann, coutinho or dembele would still need to step up.

Oh definitely there's a part of that, it's been the case for Argentina too. Messi's gift is a blessing and a curse. Only strong personalities become independent of him i.e. seniors. Which is why cliques form and average players barely improve or become even slightly reliable. There's seldom a manager who can make this disappear.

It's in Barca's interest to lose Messi sooner than later. Valdano said it best recently too.

Cut ties and rebuild. Everything different, from image, through finances & wage ladder, all the way to mental stability of players who had pressure on their heads to prove they're not garbage when played next to Leo who did so much in offense & chance creation that their every error is magnified tenfold.

I completely refute that. If Ronald is a good coach we currently have the make up of players that can get to the Champions League final 2021 (after we get rid of a couple of players)

He's not a bad coach, but he's not going to get us back to that level. He was shit at Valencia, did okay at Southampton, did shit at Everton. He's done well in shit leagues, but he's often struggled in good leagues. He's also got a history of falling out with his players.

If you really think our squad is good enough to compete, then I don't know what to tell you. We just got trashed by Bayern. We have no money to rebuild. We have an old squad. Messi staying for another 9 months won't change anything.

Barca will not be competing for CL next season but squad will not be as bad as 'Europa without Messi' which is often claimed.

Need to realise next season is about building for future as much as possible.... squad under a coach with authority, younger players getting minutes and older legs/wages reduced.

I would find that more enjoyable to watch than this season.
