Lionel Messi - v7

We are shooting ourselves in the foot with demanding 700m or else. This hard stance is purely symbolic, I think, just to show that the club and Bartomeu in particular are not looking to let Messi go or to sell him, especially since they are facing pressure from some local fans. However, we all know Messi wants to leave and if we can negotiate for a decent price right now it is better than having him here for another season reluctantly and losing him for free next summer. More importantly, this is distracting us from focusing on preparing for the upcoming season.

Forget about those protesting fans, negotiate with City and let Messi get out of here and we move on ASAP.

This is likely what's going to happen.

Barto fucks up (not shocking) and Messi makes out like a bandit when we could have gotten a lot more out of this deal.

True. Idiots. Why make/save nearly 150m for next season to improve the team, when you can lose him for free next year  and lose 100m instead paying a player who doesn't give a fuck anymore.

Sell even for as low as 50m + Garcia and Angelino. They would surely pay that.

Because they are incompetent and back-stabbing cucks == also the reason Messi wants to leave.

Club are on tough spot.

The moment they ask for 150m that pretty much sets the highest fee if went to court.

Would not trust City/Messi to not then refuse fee, sign for City and then use 150m as worst case scenario in court.

Not as easy as just opening negotiations and naming a price.

No one trusts one another and City want him for free would be my guess and negotiations be almost impossible.

We can't trust Messi and M.City? That's something Messi and M.City should be saying about our board.

Here's R10's KO goal scoring for Barcelona in CL in 5 years:

03/04: 0, think we were Europa league (not his fault, obviously. I'm not agenda driven like BBZ).
04/05: 2, versus Chelsea
05/06: 2, versus Chelsea and Benfica
06/07: 0
07/08: 0

So, R10 in 4 (or 5) years scored 4 CL KO goals for Barcelona. Does that mean CR7 is 15 times the player that R10 is because he has 60 KO goals? CR7 is a better player than R10 because of longevity but you see the problem in only looking at certain numbers do you not?

And R10 is one of your favorite players, BBZ. You going to shit on him too?

My point is that Messi's first years were GOAT.

After that something happened.
Remember that mysterious illness when he used to throw up during matches.

My theory is that he either had some arrhythmia attacks and freaked out because of it and was afraid to force himself to 120% ever again.
Or he had some anxiety attacks or similar.

But Messi was not the same after 2013-2014.

Till then I would never say that he was frightened on away matches.
I don't know was it a disease, was it him becoming a father, was it some unknown personal problems (he is kinda a weird man-child person, some even said semi-authistic), or was it a media pressure about Messi-Cr7 rivalry.

But in the last few years he turned into Jekyll and Hyde type of a person.
An unstoppable Goat in surroundings where he feels safe (Camp Nou matches and La liga matches) and a shadow of himself away from home (Nt matches, CL away matches).

Till 2012-2013-2014, I laughed to Messi-Cr7 comparisons.
But the thing is, Cr7 was better in the last few years due to his motivation and due to Barca being unable to stop Real in a CL since we (led by Messi) were losing against anyone so we never actually played against Real.

Today for me there are two Messis:
1. the young one who was awesome both in La liga and cheating codes in a CL
2. and an older Messi, with Messipendencia, who is an advantage only against average La liga teams, but who is very easy to neutralize in Europe, due to a decline in pace, stamina and due to his change in personality as explained above

So, Messi from early days was a GOAT.
But Messi from the last few years is just a human.
On par with R10, R9, Maradona and other guys.
And as explained, in the last 5-6 years, I would give a vote to Cr7 over Messi due to 4Cls+Euro versus 1 Cl.

Messi declined a lot compared to his early days.
The same as R9 after injuries.
Or R10 after 2006.

In that sense, I think that you guys are overrating this older version of Messi because he is ours and due to his early days.
I don't have any bad words for younger Messi.

Also, Messi is way more talented than Cr7.
Yet, Cr7 achieved equal or more with less talent.
In my eyes, in general, Messi could have achieved more.

Barto is guilty, his teammates were not perfect, but he is also guilty.
Dropping deep, not playing on a wing, sulking after 0:1 in Europe, insiting to play every match for 90 minutes, playing Mickey Mouse Cdr matches etc.

Something is def up with his stamina - its one of the reasons I always disagreed with the idea he'll be playing til hes 40. i guess we'll see at City if he runs more under Pep but remember the meme 'hes saving himself for the world cup'? well, he continued walking around in that world cup also and even though Messi isn't the most motivated (like Ronaldo for example) I refuse to believe he would walk around like that in a world cup due to some laziness

The rumors of him puking before matches in 2013 and 2014 were true I guess. Wonder what happened after that magical 11/12 season where he scored 73 goals? Heart problems? Diagnosed with severe anxiety? The drop in form after 2012 was very noticeable to everyone that watched him weekly. Even in WC2014 he wasn't running as much as some in this forum hoped.

I know I have had my fair share of disrespecting Messi and trash talking without solid evidence. I just wish he speaks up a bit more and clears the air instead of leaving the scale fully leaning towards the media side of the story, but maybe he is a bigger man than what I will ever understand let alone be and that is what big men do, not giving the worthless media the attention they seek in order to protect his family.

I am pretty sure he is a wonderful human being and I wish him and his family all the happiness for all the happiness they have brought to football fans across the globe.

The puking and illness theory is put to bed by the 2014-2015 season. And even 18/19 to a lesser extent.

He scored 10 CL goals in 14/15 and had 58 goals and 29 assists overall.

He scored 12 CL goals in 18/19 (6 KO ones) and had 51 goals and 20 or so assists at age 32.

In both seasons he averaged more than 1 goal per game. FFS.

The only thing we can blame Messi for is not being cutthroat like CR7 is with his own gameplay and with his teammates. This is why he has underachieved in CL relative to his talent. Everything else is just conjecture.
