The Thiago ship ha sailed, he'll be 29 next summer. Pique also isn't fit to play in the starting lineup anymore. That's why it was such a shame we pretty much gave up on De Ligt over nothing, since we all knew getting Neymar back was a pipe dream, yet our Board fell for it and abandoned the De Ligt deal, for which we were in pole position, until we decided to let it go.

Who was the last bad CB the board has signed?
Even Vermaelen was solid when healthy, Mathieu was too underrated (and shit in his last year) as a CB for us.
Umtiti,Lenglet have been good. Todibo is to be seen. Mascherano was the last one before them but he was signed as DM.
We don't have Zubi to overrule medical stuff anymore. And last bad -in terms of form- CB that was signed here goes back to Laporta's day tbf

I don't think we'll sign a bad CB, but I fear we'll sign the similar profile. Slow, unathletic like Lenglet. Having a 1.85m+ CB that's athletic and got some serious pace can make such a huge difference to our backline.

That is very possible and very serious concern of mine too. Having a good fit is important.
My hope is either:
A-Abidal sees the reality that we need athletic CB
B-Abidal fetish for french players will help us since many of those available are fast.
C-Todibo turns to be the player we want and be what Umtiti was supposed to be, making things easier for us

Upamecano and Konaté are two such players that come to mind. Depends on how much they're willing to pay I guess.

Eric Abidal has connected with his agent about a potential move to Barcelona and it looks like the player is ready to change his jersey. Amer is 22 y.o. and is Bosnian international. He has quick fits and excellent dribbling skills, good vision on the field and is extremely dangerous scorer. He can be the missing piece for Barcelona as an attacking midfielder and form a very solid trio with Arthur and Frankie de Jong. Busquets is playing his last season with Barcelona. You are wrong on this. The only better center back than him is his partner in the national team - Virgill Van Dijk. The main reason we lost him is that Valverde won't move Pique to the bench. De Light is better than all our central defenders together. Don't fool yourself in vain, it won't help.

Vermaelen was solid? Are you serious? What team were you watching? Vermaelen and Mathieu were bad choices for Barcelona. Pique, Umtiti, Lenglet and Todibo are average players, who lucks athleticism. Especially the first two. We need a pair of better central defenders and De Ligt was one of them, but we missed on him.

De Ligt has some marvellous qualities and has great potential but he does seem prone to lapses in concentration and he’s hardly athletic.. seems a tad sluggish tbh .. he’s a chunky lad after all

With the exception of wide players it's written in stone that every player Barca sign has to be slow as a turtle.

Wasn't he meant to have been signed to replace Keita and used as cover/competition for an overworked Busquets, while also able to play box to box like Keita could.

The fact he was a flop meant Busquets stayed overworked and has paid the price.
