Luis Suárez

Let us be honest, we NEED Suarez. We need a hungry striker to actually score or else it is Messi dependence all over which is ugly to watch. If Messi is not in the mood then we do not score. Until we get us another pure striker who knows every inch of the goal and can score from half a chance, then Suarez must play

Found EV's barca forum account.
Guy was fairly trash last year. His new physique and coming back to training early is a positive sign though, if he can be the Suarez of old it would be a major boost for us. Not holding my breath though.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
He won't be the Suárez of old, that is impossible... However, he could definitely polish his link up play and finishing, that would be more than enough...

Yes the guy #2 in goals in la liga and #2 in overall metrics had trash season, sure he did. If posters want respect they should follow the ups and downs of #9s across european footy before they open their mouths or vomit through their keyboard.

The guys trash, your love affair with him isn't going to change that, talking about cycles of a 9 and so on. This isn't some regular or mid table club this is Barca a super club with high expectations and requirements. The issue with Suarez currently is his overall play has been absolutely diabolical, the guy screws up too many attacks and misses too many easy chances. His attitude on the pitch with his team mates also does him no favors.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that his performances have been adequate enough for a club like us especially against better opponents. His stats/metrics are due to the GOAT laying assist after assist for him etc etc

Let's see, he kicked ass for Liverpool, he kicked ass for Barca, and he still kicks ass for Uruguay (including 4 goals and 2 assists in the last 9 matches in BIG tournaments over the last 13 months). No doubt Messi helps, but the pedestrian midfield service certainly doesn't. Suarez isn't and won't return to his peak (probably best #9 for a number of years), but there are at one hand of players in the world who would be a better #9 to this Barca squad even at his current age, none of which are acquirable. Of course the manager and trainers need to better conserve him for april and may--would think AG can be part of this. But really guys like Salah, CR, Kane, and Mane go through droughts too (and Mbappe can do dumb stuff), all the top scorers have more misses than makes, and Messi spoils the Barca centric fans even though he misses too sometimes--the nature of the high risk high reward position.

I think you kind of missed the point. He's not just missing he's being absolutely atrocious in most of the build up play, he's wasted so many opportunities and chances it's actually absurd and in the big games those chances matter.

He's genuinely been utter crap for us only masked by Messi's brilliance.
I never disputed he was the best 9 round in years gone by but last year he was 20% of what he once was. I also agree that there aren't really any players out there for the 9 position most of them are no where near the quality of previous 9s gone past but we can still get someone who won't break down all out attacks by fumbling the ball into defenders.

For the past 2 years this thread is literally "hope he gets his form back", it's amazing how delusional people can be.

Looks like Suarez will really be hungry .. he’s apparently looking super slim after extra training sessions .. maybe he wants to make a good impression when Neymar returns :)

list the players who have had more club goals than him over the last TWO years. list the players who did better than 5 goals and 2 assists in their last big time national tournaments. ya'll need to see the big picture. he even had a massive goal in the liverpool tie--one goal in 2 matches is great against that defense. seriously yall have to watch the so called other great strikers (outside of messi) and see how many lost possessions and misses they have--that is the nature of the beast. if you ask me if i could add any player to replace right now for immediate impact it would probably be salah and he went through a big slump this year and pundit questions. cr at the start of serie a couldnt score either. it happens--nature of the beast.

list the players who had Messi behind him last TWO years. Lucas scored 3 in 45min CL semis and I still don't rate him, 1 game means literally nothing. the big picture? That he scored 1 goal in 3 years in CL? He scored a goal against Liverpool? A striker? Scored a goal? Absolutely outrageous, what else did he do? I watch Cavani, Firmino, even Mandzukic and Suarez doesn't even look like a football player compared to them. Salah had a slump? If you knew anything about Liverpool, you would know his role has changed, he isn't the last man now and he is still up there with other strikers if you only look at the numbers, the "slump" is him having less goals than his wonder season? Wish Suarez had only a "slump" like that. CR doesn't even play in Serie A, he is resting at home and barely gets called up for half matches.

Do I have to do your homework? OK did most of it (could have missed those would fit in the lower group but I don't think I missed anyone over 50 goals from the top 5 leagues).

GOALS FOR CLUB LAST 2 YEARS INCLUDING FROM CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (or Europa if applicable) MATCHES:

Messi, 97
Lewa, 81
CR, 72
Salah, 71
Kane, 65
PEA, 64
Aguero, 62
Cavani, 62
Mpabbe, 60
Suarez, 56
Neymar, 51
Griezmann, 50
Ben Yedder, 50
Sterling, 48
Mane, 46
Aspas, 46
Iacardi, 46
Quag, 45
Firmino, 43
Benzema, 42
Lukaku, 42
Rodrigo, 41
Vardy, 41
Werner, 40
Zapata, 39
Hazard, 38
Jesus, 38
Son, 38
Jovic, 36
Lacazette, 36
Dybala, 36
Sane, 30
Rashford, 26

Now how does that company look of players who got more than 50 goals the last 2 years for their club?

Now who are we talking about attaining to improve upon Suarez's goal production by benching him for that player? How much would it cost for said player, even if there is any selling point for the selling team?
As far as I am concerned the two best alternatives we could have gotten this offseason were Griezmann and Jovic, neither of which had Suarez's goal production and further we got one of them!

Now if you can't find a reasonable alternative to acquire to replace him can you stop the bitching and moaning about the supposed "low production" from one Luis Suarez?
