Matthijs de Ligt

I highly doubt Ajax and De Ligt would accept 60m plus add-ons. If true at least we are not lowballing and it is a good that we are getting the ball rolling with an offer. 60m is a starting place, it will go up.

Price won't go up to Frenkie's level I don't think.

It's good that we already have good options in defence, it shows that we aren't desperate which puts us in a good position when negotiating.
Ajax know we won't pay 80M.

If Juve offers 80, we will have to pay 80. Or 60+20 add ons which will easily be activated as a formality.

I doubt Juve will offer that much for a CB. And as I've said before Juve is a second tier team when it comes to attracting the biggest talents.

If the 60m is true then it is a starting bid. This deal comes down to de Ligt. 60m shows we are interested enough, but not willing to get into a bidding war.

If Barcelona offers 60m + variables and Juve (or PSG) 80m, then de Ligt can reject other offers (his economic benefit is going to be similar at all clubs judging by Frenkie's wage) forcing Ajax to agree a deal with Barcelona.

The deal should not be too complicated if Barcelona can close it before the summer transfer window like with Frenkie. The only spanner is that if Raiola can swing some influence into de Ligts ear for a Juve move. Reason being that like Pogba, he can engineer two signing on fee commissions. One going to Juve, and another moving from Juve.

If he goes to Barcelona he only moves in two cases. 1. he fails or 2. someone pays his BO.

wouldn't be to sure about that. I could see de ligt wanting to try out PL, he has before talked about it. So if extends his contract ones, and not a second time, we may sell him. its not like he is a messi-fanboy or barca fan like de jong.

Juve are known for their defense and CB and their whole back line are in mid thirties. They bough bonuci for 40-50m didn't they? De ligt isn't just any CB. they paid 80m for higuain. 100m for ronaldo. They can pay it.

But i do agree that they are no serious threat. De ligt will come here for sure, there isn't really doubt about it. Only question is the price and if juve will try and push the price up. Kinda like PSG did all tho its not the same, because de jong had a pre-deal with them.

De light to Juve?

The spaghettis probably dont know Big Baller Barto, he goes shopping for players like its black friday.
Who should stop him? This is Barca, PSG can tell a good story about it.

Barcelona have reportedly made a €60 million offer to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt and are hoping to have the deal completed inside a month.

According to Sport, Barca have put forward that initial offer, which will also include add-ons, along with a five-year deal for the player.

"Sources close to the negotiation say the transfer is on track and the club are very optimistic" of securing his signature ahead of European rivals Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

I don't get this talk of dismissing Juventus as a serious threat. They are a tier 1 team, having advanced to CL finals twice and quarter-finals twice in the last 5 years. They have money. All of their CBs are old.

I think the players are a bit different from us fans, to most of them the No.1 thing is probably where they can get solid minutes, play and develop, instead of the prestige of the club. I don't doubt if we offer De Ligt the same conditions (say a guaranteed starting position) as Juventus does he will pick us for sure, but if Juventus keeps enticing and promising him with a guaranteed starting position while we can't (obviously we can't and shouldn't), he might go there just for that alone.

Yeah because they're desperate for success. When these old farts retire they won't be able to afford 80M on a single player because a lot of areas will need improvements.

It's done.

This was the guy who first said in Dec/Jan that FDJ would end up at Barca once Barca presented their offer to him. That was the time everyone was claiming he was PSG bound.

Very reliable when it comes to Barca news too.

Welcome De Ligt!
