We need to measure this guy's minutes in upcoming weeks. Rest him at every chance. I think he should not feature against Valencia tomorrow. Need him fresh.

Can't wait to see how he does against best midfield of recent years (Real Madrid's) on 3 different occasions within a period of 10 days. The 5-1 Clasico earlier this year we gotta admit Real Madrid played like shit except the beginning of second half. They'll probably perform better this time. It will be the ultimate test for Arthur. If he thrives, he'll definitely establish himself as one of the very best midfielders in Europe this season. Huge opportunity for him.

Agree it will be great to see him in these tests, wiley and technical group of midfielders Madrid has. Looking forward to his reaction to Atleti too, a different set and style of outstanding midfielders--though I know much later. Hard for me to fathum that large of test via Lyon. One or two of City & Liverpool & Bayern will be his ultimate tests this year I believe, Madrid is better in midfield but those teams better collectively squeeze you and come at you quickly from different directions.

Well I don't agree with not starting him every match. Not only are his legs young, the gaining of this experience is vital (feel the same way towards Lenglet--the experience is more important than sitting out matches, though I know a CB runs less than a mid). Regularly substituting for Arthur is fine (with a vet or Alena pending the situation). Vidal/Rakitic/Busi however do need whole matches off and times they just come in midway 2nd half (spelling Arthur and each other).

You're right those teams are better collectively, and City's midfield might be as good as RM's talent wise.

Liverpool and Atletico would be good tests for Arthur because he'd have to face the most energetic midfielders. Liverpool's midfield is the best at pressing high and playing quickly up front. But we already know that Arthur does brilliant when he's pressed. Still those 2 opponents would be a good test to see how good his gas tank is and whether he can perform well for 90 mins against those workhorses.

I believe RM and City are the 2 ultimate tests for Arhur because he'll face midfielders equally as good technically and talent wise as he is. Plus we know for a fact that in a Clasico and in a potential match/tie vs City, these 2 teams will put on their best effort in terms of work rate even if that means they'll have to overperform for 2 games.

Regarding Bayern, their midfield and their team more generally hasn't been that impressive this season. We'll see how they cope against Liverpool in the round of 16, they'll get a huge boost if they go through but Liverpool are the slight favorites imo.

"ARTHUR MELO : L'HISTOIRE DE "L'HÉRITIER DE XAVI"

Great little documentary - in French - on Arthur, which includes footage of him doing little Xavi turns in his early teens.

Incredible in possession, they could not get the ball off him at all. He dominated Modric and the game overall. 3 tackles and 6 interceptions today, while Rakitic had 1 and 0 respectively. Vidal and Busquets both won more duels than Rakitic today. So much for that mysterious unseen/unappreciated contribution lmao.

I wonder what BBZ would say today.... Probably nothing.

He has no lungs. Get tired and walks after 70 min.

Needs to fix his stamina

Maybe, just maybe, if both Rakitic and Busquets stop jogging and starts running to give more options to pass, maybe Arthur can have legs until the end of the game. Our midfield looks a one-man sometimes, with only Arthur building the attacks, moving without the ball, going up and down to participate.
