That what I said many times before but people kept arguing he isn't a CF or false 9 doesn't work anymore etc. The older he gets the more we need him closer to the box. He is still the best forward in the world, and dropping deep to collect the ball was more because we didn't have a solid MF to provide passes from him since Xavi left. He slows the tempo in the MF so he should stick to the final third. Now that we have Arthur, he could be key to MF stabilities although I wanted an experienced CM along with him like Thiago.

That Messi pass to Suarez with the outside of his foot early on in the game was one of his best ever. If anyone can find the video and put it up it would be great

To a certain extent, yes. It's because he is Messi with the ball, not because he is Messi by popularity. I have addressed Messi's problem but he is still by far the best player with the ball. Those key chances, plays, are the key to Barcelona's attack. Not to mention his brilliance in free kicks. We cant do without him.

For now, he isnt the biggest problem. What irks me the most is the lack of movement from the squad, coach didnt seem to give a shit and have never ever addressed these issues, old and slow players upfront after Neymar left, we stuck with Suarez and assume it could work.

Messi needs dynamic players around him, that can pick up his passes, drive the ball forward, carry on with attack, link up and make use of spaces, runs and when the opportunity presents itself, Leo can strike the ball and the rest is history.

Main problem is we are too afraid to break away from past glory, and continue using old players even they are washed up. Even the coach thought MSN was still a functional and feasible solution.

I still believe Messi will head for a decline, but for now, he is the least of our worries.

He's made himself unavailable for selection for the International Break in September. He want to see if AFA has an actual plan and project in place along with incorporating a new generation before deciding on whether to return to play for Argentina or not.

Smart move. He must let them go, for exact reasons because only thing they delivered to him is suffering and incompetence. And when they need him, and they would need him, let them think if they earned his trust. Smart from Leo!

as much as I want Messi to win an international trophy, I think this is the best move for now as the Argentina team is really dependent on him than Barca are. Argentina needs to show that they can make a solid team without him and then think about whether to bring him on board or not. I'm still hoping that he can win the Copa America 2019.
