11 - Ousmane Dembélé - V1

The ability is clearly there it is just about him fitting into a system where he will be there to fit round Messi.

No doubt he could go somewhere and get freedom and be brilliant just need to give him time and see if can fit in as part of a system based on someone else.

Well we did get glimpses against Girona of how he could fit in. But Valverde in his infinite wisdom abandoned it the next match.

Camp nou matches are the easiest.
Especially if they play as crappy as Girona did.

The next match was a different story.

Reading replies like these it sounds as if EV thought: oh, we won 6:1 against Girona. I don't want those kind of matches again. Let's go back to shitty lineups...

Against Girona we played with 4 players who can't defend: Messi, Luis, Dembele, Coutinho.
It is harder to play that way in away matches where the opponents are way more dangerous.

Well, Valverde seems to have rated Dembele's performance today and will probably feature against Malaga either as a sub or as a starter.

How would you guys behave if you were benched for the Holy trinity of Lords- Paulinho/Gomes/Vidal week in week out without getting a chance to prove yourself?

You really need to stop repeating this all the time.

Girona - Sunday
Las Palmas - Wednesday
Espanyol - Wednesday

3 matches in 11 days. For a player coming after injury. 2nd injury.

Benched week in, week out.

>Oh right we needed workhorses to win against a "dangerous" relegation threatened side. Good thing we won with Valverde's A-team then. Oh wait......

>Wait why cant Coutinho defend? As a MF it's more imperative on him to defend than an attacker like Dembele.

>Dembele can't defend any worse than turnover king Paulinho

>Messi and Suarez shouldnt get free passes over workrate. We need to defend as a team to win the CL.

>Valverde is a pussy. That's why he always goes for safe option.

>Don't spout Tolkien level long history lessons to justify Valverde being a pussy. Our team isn't build to defend 1-0 leads and we didn't buy 300m worth of attacking talent to play workhorses.

You really need to stop repeating this all the time.

And you really need to stop spouting BS arguments.

>Girona played

>Las Palmas garbage minutes against a parked bus

>Atletico benched

>Asspanyol- Friendly with B team players

So when he plays well at home it doesn‘t count?
I understand the second half of your post, but I think if he plays well (at home or away) we should just recognize it as a good performance. In the end it can only be in the clubs interest when he performs well and improves.
Of course in the other case, after a bad performance, we should be allowed to criticise him.
In my opinion he should start the next couple of league games and if his performances don‘t improve, then, by all means, bench him again.

The way Barca played in second half v Atletico there was no real reason to take him on unless taking off Suarez.

Messi and Suarez stayed high up the park and never got back to defend with any great intensity. Adding Dembele to that would have been risky if EV has doubts over his ability to defend and get back in shape etc.

In the match chat BBZ you had the Girona game as fully relevant when Barca went 1-0 down or even when 1-1, 2-1 when Girona breaking.

As soon as Barca batter them then it means fuck all.

Cant pick and choose like that if trying to make a serious point.

Benched for 1 game = benched week in week out? 3 matches in 11 days.

Why would it be a BS argument?

Yet you are calling Valverde a coward.
Many things aside, like him not having a preseason with us or being injured most of the time, it's WAY too early to draw any conclusions.

Since most of them are BS.

Luftsalag watched all Dembele's matches in Bvb.
He says that he never defends.
He is just standing and watching and waiting for a counter.

But, in Bvb he was a key man with a free role.
It is hard to play that way at Barca when we already have a few guys who don't defend.

About Coutinho, he is more attacker than a Cm and has a weak physique.
He is trying to defend but he isn't too good at it.
Something similar to when Denis tries to defend.

My point: our team is set up in that way that too many star players are not defending.
And EV likes defense.
This is why you won't see these 4 guys too often in a lineup together.

Valverde is surprised by a question about Dembélé's life off the field, but he explains that they are happy with him.
https://twitter.com/barcacentre/status/971501791446753280?s=19

We should take his statements on things as sensitive as this more carefully

If there was a problem with his life off the field and attitude, the last thing the club or the coach would want is media murmuring about it

As some here often say, he's young and it could hurt his confidence

I can tell you that in Barcelona - Juventus 3-0 Dembele defended pretty well. Sure, didn't do tackles or anything spectacular, but he tracked back and was disciplined overall.

Ronaldo usually doesn't track back for example, he just waits for counters, but in the bigger games you see him trying harder and doing more to help the team. Now, I'm not a fan of Ronaldo, but this is the right approach.

Players who don't do defensive work usually, still do that in the big games.

>So a 20 year old is set in his ways and cannot change his game to defend more after coming to a big club. Makes sense. Again he can't defend any worse than Paulinho if he tries.

>If Valverde has such a hard on for defense then he should grow some balls and ask Messi and Suarez to defend. Seniors should lead by example.

>Well if Coutinho can't defend why shouldn't he be benched for one of your workhorses? Why pick and choose an argument to favor Coutinho over Dembele?

>Dembele's partnership with Semedo looks promising. They can work it out how to defend our right flank.

Two of them (Las Palmas and Asspanyol) don't count as proper games. That's why its BS. But ofc you're a Valverde apologist so you don't see it.
