It is up to PSG and cant see them budging on it but if you are a young player dreaming of playing in best leagues in europe it would surely make you think twice about moving to PSG.
Don't worry for us. There are plenty of players who want to play for Paris.

Classy team keeping players hostage.

We'll see what's going to happen. Verratti needs to force their hand. Do it Verratti!!!

He can't. And won't do it. I'm confident.

This. It sends a messagge to all young players out there. A contract with PSG is bounding by force. You sign with them and you no longer decide you own career.

PSG owns Verratti.

But frankly, if players don't know this in the first place they are quite thick! Everyone knows that the only way to get away from PSG if they don't want to sell you is to turn down extensions and leave on a free.

Verratti should now start to act like a dick.

For example, he shouldn't come to trainings at July 4th.
If a club replies: you have to come.
He can say: I am injured or I have personal problems.

If a club says: you won't get your wages.
Verratti: Fine. I'll sit, won't play and wait.

I mean, if Verratti really wants to come to Barca, he should make troubles now.
Psg CAN'T force him to play.
Unless if he has a clause in his contract that he has to pay like 10-20-50 Million penalties to Psg if he refuses to play.
If the only penalty will be not getting wages or paying some minor (like 100k Euros penalties), then DO IT.

Modric and a lot of guys did the same when they wanted out.

Imagine Modric's career if he stayed in a fckng Tottenham and if he hadn't forced his way out.

Verratti made a mistake in signing the extension, that much is for sure. Players who have ambitions to play for the best teams in the world and play football at the highest possible level need to take notice and don't sign for PSG in the first place, because if they do, the chances to develop their career even further is limited.

So, promising players will hopefully understand that teams like Dortmund, Monaco and others treat their players with more respect than PSG does even if the salary is lower. PSG will show zero understanding for a player who has higher ambitions and wants to develop their career even further.

The thing is PSG see themselves as a Madrid/Barca level team. And it's laughable and delusional.

If PSG forces him to stay despite him going public, then they might be playing a dangerous game and lose out other younger players in the future who will be wary of their prospects to move elsewhere.

No player want to be tied down to a team against their will.

However, I don't see this going that far.

This works when you have max 1-2 years left on your contract. How much years does Verratti have? PSG can just finish his career if they want to. And they are one of the few clubs who are capable of ruining a player's career just to prove an idiotic point to themselves.

Problem with that is the backlash they'll face.

No player would want to sign for a team like that and FIFPro will come out against them.

What happens if there's a revolt in the dressing room against Nasser and the club's behaviour towards Verratti?

They will find young players who will take a 5m. a year contract, players who will not think 5-6 years ahead. Not all young players are in it for a lot more than making loads of money in the present.

They will position themselves as a club where you can earn a lot of money while being comfortable, which was City's position as well up until Pep came and started to shake things up.

Difference is that City might be far more open to negotiate if a player want to leave.

Had Verratti been at City, I think we would have signed him already.

True though, but I was thinking more about 21-23 years old players who might have offers from other teams too.

They might get more money in Paris, but a major drama like that could put them off too.

As DonAk said, yes, they can do that.
They can put Verratti on the stands for 4 years and end his career.

That way, Verratti would be dead as a player and Psg would be dead as a team.
They could find young players aged 18-20 who would sign for them.
But NONE out of top players would sign for them after such a scandal.

They would never be able to lure Messi, Neymar, Zlatan and similar players after that.
They could get only youngsters and rejects like Bravo, Gomes, Arda and similar.

So, Verratti, do it.
They will let you go in the end if you'll start to cause troubles.

It's the thing I hate most in football. Clubs and their fans who think they're elite, when they're actually not. It's the reason Arsenal fans annoy me.

I agree about City.

I don't think PSG signs players who are disputed by the likes of Barca and Madrid though. Did Verratti choose PSG instead of Barca, Madrid or Bayern let's say? No.

I very much agree with your assessment in the middle: Players need to recognize that, but I think they do?

Here we go again - and I will quote myself from March:

Which one of the extensions do you mean?

July 2012: 5-year contract until 2017
August 2013: From 2017 to 2018
September 2014: From 2018 to 2019
February 2016: From 2019 to 2020
August 2016: From 2020 to 2021

It seems like a very very clear conscious decision to stay at PSG (with a bigger and bigger salary of course).
Agents say things every now and then (I believe he has withdrawn the comments somewhat already), but the extensions speaks the truth.

To clarify: It is not that his opinion doesn't matter. It matters very much - but only when he decides to extend his contract or not. He has decided to do that 4 times in 4 years, that seems pretty determined to me.

It is an ugly truth, but the sooner people deal with it, the sooner we can move forward to a player who can actually join the team and make real world difference, not only difference in Football Manager-games.

I've said it before: Kevin De Bruyne is also a very compatible Iniesta-replacement, but I don't see anyone posting every f****** day about him joining here, even though it would be a perfect move for us - because ManCity notoriously don't want to sell him - and therefore it makes no sense to brainlessly chase him.
