"What FC Barcelona have achieved this season is what we dream of. Dreams that don't come real. Barcelona have dominated Europe this year. They beat the English Champions, German Champions, Italian Champions French Champions and the World Champions. They played 26 games against top quality opponents Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal, Sevilla, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Paris saint germain, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Juventus. Of those 26 games we won 22 of them, had 1 draw and scored 61 goals ( goals per match ratio = 2.34 ). One of the 3 loses was a 2-3 loss away to Bayern Munich in which Barcelona took their foot off the gas due to a big aggregate lead in the 2 part series having won the first match 3-0. Barcelona won their countries League, their countries knockout cup and the European Champions League. A feat that only 7 European clubs (including Barcelona) had done before. Barcelona becoming the first team do achieve this 2 times. From 2008-2012 we all know what coach Josep (Pep) Guardiola managed to achieve that included 2 European Champions Leagues and 2 Club World Cups in 4 seasons. It was a period of success that we didn't think we would see again. Even this season our current coach Luis Enrique had difficulties and tension within the club and was looking like he would get sacked at the end of the season. Then for some reason things improved. Our brillient squad began to flex their muscles as the relationships improved and the team chemistry was on fire! Despite that 'blip' this is by the statistics - our greatest season ever. Up front we had Brazils best goal scorer + Argentina's and Uruguays. MSN as they became known as. Messi, Suarez and Neymar knocked in 122 goals in 60 games despite a delayed start with Luis Suarez returning to football from a biting ban and having his first season in a new team. Many feel 140 could well have been reached. Many also see it as improbable that Barcelona will fail to win the Sixtuple (All 6 major trophies in a calender year) finishing with the Club World Cup in december. If they achieve this they will become only the 2nd Football team in the history of the sport to do so. Barcelona did it in 2009. What a dream ending to the 6 time FIFA World Team of the year man XAVI #6. Have a happy retirement!"

Excellent post!

The Bayern defeat was indeed a dead-rubber (could have happened anyway though) and the Real Madrid and PSG losses were in the very early part of the season. Once the team got going and things clicked we went on a simply astonishing run of wins (home and away) over good (Ajax, Bilbao, Villarreal, Sevilla, Valencia) very very good (Atletico, City, PSG) and mighty (Real Madrid, Bayern Munich) opponents.

This feat is simply unrivaled in the annals of European football. If the Pep Treble was a rhapsody devoted to stylish and intelligent football, the Lucho Treble has been a landmark of attacking and defensive efficiency against the toughest possible opponents, with some stylish football to boot. I would also add that none of our victories was fluky, in all our victorious games we had chances to spare.

I am wondering what Barca fans think about the value of a Champions League win compared to a FIFA WC win. The WC is only played once in 4 years, the CL is played every year. However, we all know that the quality of club teams is increasingly superior to national teams. Who is seriously believing that the German WC team could beat our Barça team? There is no doubt in my mind that a team that can beat Bayern Munich can beat the German Mannschaft.
Therefore, trying to base the GOAT discussion on success in the WC seems somewhat obsolete: Winning the Champions League 4 times, isn't
that worth more than winning the World Cup?
Pele's National Brazil team was superior to his Santos Club team; Maradona's Argentina National team was stronger than his club team; however, both Germany and Argentina could not beat today's Barça.
What do you think?
