Thuram was more important to France in 98 than Zidane imo. I thought Zidane was great in Euro2000, but i feel Totti should have won player of the tournament and would have if Italy converted one of there 1000 chances to score in that final.

Without a single shadow of a doubt the greatest midfielder ever, at his peak he was and still is completely unique, and he has showed this season the level of class he still has in him.

I am looking forward to seeing him back in the club some day as a coach, sporting director or whatever position he choses to take. No matter what it is, I'm sure he'll do a great job. Let's hope he can end his career in Barca with a treble.

Good bye for now Xavi! :barcascarf:

What about easily the best player since Maradona? that one came around quite often pre Messi.

Look how underrated Rivaldo is compared to Zidane, he was even better than him at wc's and they are more or less at the same level, yet you put a poll up it will be Zidane winning it 90-10% type which makes him overrated.

I think you may be placing your opinion a bit high and above everyone else's here, I for one think that Zidane had an incredible career with his nation and I'm not talking about the double final headers only but many more events, for one I find Zidane vs Brazil in 2006 world cup to be one of the best midfield performances I have ever seen in a world cup (and one of the best ever), I invite you to go down the memory lane and watch one of the 7 min(ish) long videos of that on youtube.

Rivaldo was great no doubt and had a more vital role than Zidane up front, but as a mid fielder, dictating the flow, controlling the rhythm, making certain passes nearly always and making intelligent changes or long passes as well as keeping the ball and dribbling... think again in my opinion Zidane wins all those while Rivaldo wins most of the needed tools to score like shot technique, shot accuracy.

Definitely not an overrated player for me.

Zidane is overrated but so are most retired legends. Both Xavi and Iniesta have had better career's than him and have shown more quality imo. Zidane wouldn't have been able to compete with prime Xavi/Iniesta.

Only because Zidane has played for RM, look what they have done with CR, the media puts him on Messi's level  they tried to do the same with Robinho and Robben

Thank you for everything Xavi but why Qatar? It's not like he's not already rich. He should've just accepted a bench role while learning to coach or retired. Would've been the perfect end to his career to end it with a treble.

Qatar isn't a bad place to be at all. One of the fastest developing countries today. He'd be treated as a God. And who knows? Maybe Player-Manager is a role he's going to pick up there? Get enough experience before he comes back to us.

I was about to say the same. But no doubt, Zidane was an amazing player.

True. Zidane the myth and Zidane the real player are different things. He was great of course, but Xavi and Iniesta were better.

He clearly admitted today that one of the reasons explaining his departure is his decreasing playing time. Lucho has been great. My only regrets is that he could have let a little bit more playing time to Xavi and Pedro.

Xavi played 2065 minutes so far so good, I was hoping at the beginning of the season that he would play around 2500 minutes.

A player like Xavi really comes one in a generation, its hard to rank him among the greats but he's certainly near to the top. He will be dearly missed.

On a sour side note I'm gutted he's going to Qatar, now only a few thousand people will ever see him play. Who remembers Raul at Al Sadd? Yeah neither do I, and who remembers Beckham at LA? I certainly do. The MLS has big crowds and lots of good players. It's something I actually watch from time to time, now I'll never see Xavi play again.
