WOW. France doesn't give a single sh*t about Messi.
Neither the France captain (Lloris), the media or the coach did vote for Messi. And I mean it. He's not even in their top 3.

That's unrelated. I'm talking about the ronaldo phenomenon in general, not about a personal POV that tries to state personal opinions as facts.
You can dislike a singer and think he's very bad, and think his fans are dumb. But your opinion won't change any facts if said singer has a huge fanbase and millions of fans.
If Ronaldo was socially a retard and not charming in some ways, he wouldn't have a big fanbase and millions of fans.

What was so good about Ronaldo's year that he ended up having more votes than Neuer and Messi combined, because I'm still yet to find out?
La Decima aside, he's had pretty similar numbers as Messi and a god awful world cup while Leo had a pretty good one + Messi broke 2 milestone records (what a farce to end the voting way before the year ends - when Ronaldo needed it they extended the voting but when Messi was about to break major records they just closed the voting few days before...)
I find it rather ridiculous.

Leo's world cup actually worked against him because of that stupid best player controversy
As you said his records weren't taken into account. And Cristiano almost netted two goals a game up until october. General timing could not have been worse for Leo, but who cares? His ( and Cronaldo's) consistency have broken the award, people find dumb & dumber reasons to orient their votes, and the players aren't leading by example in that aspect
