UEFA Champions League 2014-15

As for people panicking after our narrow and somewhat unlucky defeat against a great PSG away, well, let's just have a look at some other European "giants", and how they fared in the CL:

1) Real Madrid: Lucky and ref-aided in beating a Bulgarian minnow by a 1-2.

2) Bayern Munich: Atrocious performance against a heavily depleted CSKA Moscow side, who created many more goal-scoring chances than they did. Like Real Madrid, required a very soft penalty to win.

3) Juventus: Lost against a battling Atletico Madrid. Could not manage a single shot on target the entire 90mns.

4) Man City: In a must-win game, could not beat AS Roma at home! AS Roma being led by a pensioner (legendary as he may be) with Ashley Cole and Seydou Keita completing the geriatric line-up. Like Munchen, could only score a peno!

5) Chelsea: After a poor home draw against the mighty Schalke, pipped Sporting Lisbon by a 0-1 margin. And for some people, that is enough for them to be considered CL favourites.

6) Liverpool: I know they should not be included in this list, but still!

7) Arsenal: Absolutely smashed a defensively inept side. Honestly, Gala defending makes Alba/Alves/Biscuits look like Maldini and Baresi.

8) Dotmund: Impressive, but against very weak opposition, especially in defence. Still, Anderlecht had their chances.

Atletico-Juve…..
Juve looked very solid, was absolutely the best team.
Atletico very lucky, did not even try to play soccer (even at home!), pathetic and shameful parked bus. Not easy (for any team) to play vs such teams.
At the moment is seems a fashion to (not) play like that.
Unfortunately this way of NOT playing soccer rewards instead of punishing.

Olympiacos got robbed last night, they scored 1 goal that should've count and 1 penalty that should've been giving. Afellay played good btw.

I saw that penalty shout, and though there was definitely contact between the Swedish defender and the Olympiacos player, I am not at all sure that that penalty shout was so stonewall as some seem to believe.

Did not see the off-side goal though. But overall, Malmo could have scored even more in the second half. Olympiacos got extremely lucky in the game vs Atletico, but last night, their luck run out.

Juve were extremely solid indeed, but so were Atletico, if not more. These two sides boast the best defensive team play on the continent today, no wonder that there were almost zero chances throughout the game.

I can't see how Juventus were in any way better though. They did not have a single shot on target. Atletico created 2 or 3 chances, and scored one, deservedly beating yet another European giant with a budget several times bigger than their own.

Juve always tried to CREATE, they made the game (ball possession 64% in Madrid !!). Atletico simply parked the bus, thinking only to destroy the juve game, with some counterattack. Much easier defending than attacking, much easier destroying than creating.
Atletico had some chance not because they created something, but simply speculating on a juve mistake to start a counterattack. Not easy (for any team) to play vs such teams, no wonder they got 0 chance (even Barca had 0 chance vs parked bus Malaga).
But we are talking about Atletico, winner of la liga, final CL, winner of the spain supercup, not Malaga, not a weak team.
You are living in the past, Juve is not more a giant, the golden days are long gone, and since years the budget is very little.

Yeah, right. Moscow were ultra-defensive and had exactly 2 good goal scoring opportunities, other than that they didn't threaten Bayern's goal at all.

Josh just mad because DieGOD Simeone has taught Allegri another lesson in the CL tbh. :coffee:

I was mad for choosing that game to watch :keita:

But srs Atletico's approach was pathetic, 60 minutes gone and nothing, looked like they were playing for a point, they scored from one meaningful attack they had at home the entire 90 minutes, fair enough you could say, that was the plan, job done. At home in a must-win game i thought it was a pathetic approach, Juventus were happy with the point in an away game which is what you should aim for.

They made the game a complete eye-sore, certainly wont go out of my way to watch them again

Also on a sidenote, how many times do you have to hear the commentator say "he kicks every ball hehe" on Simeone, goodness me

This is another Qatar host case all over again. It just can't be done . I.g it could be Bayern barca and united in one group

It looks like it will be done. If it was this year already, Barcelona, arsenal, chelsea and porto would be moved to pot 2. And city, psg, juve and cska to pot 1.
